Job Title:
Production Picker / General Labor Associate Job Description This role supports a fast-paced manufacturing and packaging line by accurately picking products, loading them onto a conveyor system, assembling and repairing boxes, and maintaining product quality throughout the process. You will work as part of a coordinated team, using basic technology and communication tools to keep production flowing smoothly and efficiently. Responsibilities Pick products from the line and visually screen them to determine the correct count and placement on the conveyor. Move and load boxes, weighing up to 50 pounds, onto the conveyor belt in a safe and efficient manner. Assemble boxes to prepare them for product packing and shipment. Repair or rework damaged boxes to ensure they meet quality and shipping standards. Walk stairs and move between various levels of the facility as needed to support production activities. Use an RF scanner and other technology to identify the correct pick areas and track inventory and product movement. Operate or work alongside pallet jacks and other basic material-handling equipment to move product as needed. Communicate with team members via walkie-talkie to request additional product when needed and coordinate workflow. Notify the warehouse team when a line or pick area is finished so they can prepare the next run. Handle all products carefully to maintain quality standards and minimize damage or loss. Follow all safety procedures while working around moving mechanical parts, motorized vehicles, and production equipment. Maintain a clean and organized work area to support efficient operations and a safe environment. Essential Skills Ability to lift and move boxes weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. Comfort working on a pick line and handling repetitive tasks in a fast-paced environment. Experience with general labor or warehouse work, including order picking and working on a conveyor line. Basic experience using pallet jacks or similar material-handling equipment. Ability to use RF scanners or similar handheld devices to track inventory and locate pick areas. Clear verbal communication skills to coordinate with team members via walkie-talkie. Ability to walk stairs and move between multiple levels of the facility throughout the shift. Attention to detail to accurately count product and maintain quality standards. Reliability in attendance and consistent production performance. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience in a manufacturing or food production environment. Prior exposure to working around airborne particles or strong odors. Experience assembling and repairing boxes or working in packaging and shipping operations. Comfort learning to use new tools, equipment, and machinery with on-the-job training. Work Environment This position is based in a manufacturing plant environment with active production lines, moving mechanical parts, and motorized vehicles such as forklifts or pallet jacks. You will work around airborne spice particles and a strong spice smell, particularly when entering and moving around the facility; most employees report that they stop noticing the smell after about a week. The role requires standing, walking, climbing stairs, and lifting throughout the shift. Work is organized into three shifts: 1st shift from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., 2nd shift from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., and 3rd shift from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., providing structured hours in a 24/7 production operation. The environment is fast-paced and safety-focused, with on-site training provided on equipment, tools, and proper handling procedures. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Ankeny, IA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.50 - $18.50/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
