General Production Worker Job Description The General Production Worker serves in an entry-level, general utility role within a meat-processing production facility. This position supports multiple tasks across the production area rather than a single fixed function, contributing to safe, efficient, and compliant operations. The role focuses on general labor, sanitation, product handling, and basic equipment support while following all meat processing policies, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) regulations. Responsibilities Follow all company policies and procedures for meat processing, including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) regulations. Maintain all production areas in clean and sanitary condition throughout the shift. Identify and promptly report any issues that could lead to unsanitary conditions to the appropriate supervisor or lead. Remove product and packing materials from the floor to maintain a clean and safe work area. Properly dispose of and track inedible products according to company procedures. Separate and remove trash and recycling from production areas in a timely manner. Stage the production area with empty containers and supplies for the following shift to ensure smooth handoffs. Assist with preparing and disassembling meat-processing equipment for operation or sanitation as directed. Assist with the collection, opening, and reuse of rework materials while ensuring proper identification of product and line to prevent cross-contamination and allergen issues. Provide relief for co-workers during breaks, which may include temporarily performing other production positions. Accurately complete all assigned paperwork and documentation. Assist in training new employees by demonstrating proper work methods and procedures accurately. Check in with the area supervisor or lead before leaving at the end of the shift for any additional pass-down or shutdown tasks. Perform visual inspections of cases to ensure labels are present, accurate, and legible with correct code dates. Make basic adjustments to machinery to facilitate smooth production, including changing tape, code dates, ink, paper, film, cardboard, or pallets as needed. Operate a manual hand jack safely to move materials and products when required. Promptly communicate all equipment malfunctions or irregularities to the appropriate personnel. Prepare supplies and workstation for the next shift to support continuous operations. Stage ingredients in 50 lb containers to maintain consistent product flow. Arrange meat products as instructed and according to established specifications. Continuously comb, hang, transport, and stack product as part of the production process. Inspect products on conveyor belts to ensure they meet quality and specification standards. Perform all job duties accurately and efficiently while maintaining expected productivity and safety standards. Stand and walk for the entire shift while maintaining focus and attention to detail. Lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds as part of routine job tasks. Use both hands and perform frequent reaching, handling, and fine motor tasks. Climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as needed to perform production and sanitation duties. Communicate clearly with team members and supervisors to coordinate tasks and maintain safe, efficient operations. Work weekends and overtime hours as needed to meet production demands. Ability to perform tasks that involve climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Ability to maintain focus and performance in high-noise and varying temperature environments. Basic mechanical aptitude to make simple machine adjustments such as changing tape, ink, or film. Ability to operate a manual hand jack safely. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in general labor, general production, or packing roles. Experience in cold storage, cold food environments, or meat and meat-cutting operations. Familiarity with meat-processing equipment setup, operation, or sanitation. Previous experience working under GMP and HACCP guidelines in a food facility. Work Environment This role operates in a manufacturing environment within a meat-processing facility. The production environment includes both colder areas (around 30 degrees) and warmer temperature zones, and you should be comfortable working in these varying conditions. Noise levels are typically high, and appropriate hearing protection and personal protective equipment are provided and required. The job is physically demanding and involves standing and walking for the entire shift, frequent use of hands and fingers to handle products and equipment, reaching with hands and arms, and performing tasks that may require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. You will routinely lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds and use both hands as necessary to complete tasks.
