Full Job Description SUMMARY:
Under the direct supervision of the Plant Manager, the Machine Operator operates the block machine and associated equipment to produce quality masonry concrete products from raw materials stage to yard stage, following established policies and procedures. Hours may vary in this position due to the pour schedule. Must have daytime, evening, and Saturday availability.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include but are not limited to the following responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned as needed. Promotes a culture of safety. Adjust machinery and related processes as required to meet quality standards. Monitor the operation of the block machine, batcher, mixer, bucket, color and admix tanks, conveyors, slumper, loader, unloader, depalleter, deburrer, cuber, kilns, and other nearby equipment to detect and report malfunctions. Maintain, adjust, and perform minor repairs on the block machine and associated equipment. Communicate production emergencies. Maintain the work area in orderly and hazard-free condition. Possess sufficient numerical skills to use a tape measure, choose mold sizes, adjust machinery and calculate production reports. Learn the basics of hydraulics, electricity and tools. Follow Energy Lockout procedures Know the parts and basic assembly of a mold. Know when faulty mold parts are affecting product quality. Know concrete product sizes, shapes and colors very well. Able to cooperate with others. Exercise high levels of responsibility and task orientation. Understand and follow directions in English as required by safety and job performance standards.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education, experience, and skills: High School diploma, GED, or equivalent education preferred. Must be knowledgeable about safety regulations. Must know the basics of hydraulics, electricity, and tools. Able to follow Energy Lockout procedures. Must be able to pass OSHA fork truck certification examination and yard evaluation. Physical, mental, and environmental requirements: Regular lifting of objects up to and exceeding 100 pounds may be required along with regular standing, walking, climbing, reaching, pulling, pushing, and grasping objects. Although most work is performed inside the production area, some outside work activities are also required which are subject to seasonal Midwest weather conditions (summer heat and winter cold). Carefully follow noise, dust, and other environmental safety procedures as required. The environment also includes varying noise levels and vibrations associated with construction equipment, and exposure to building materials, dust, and dirt at the plant.
