Job Description

Job Title:
Production Worker Job Description This role involves operating and monitoring production processes, including mixing, extrusion, polishing, and finishing, to ensure products meet established quality specifications. You will measure and load ingredients, run and adjust production equipment, transfer batches between processes, and verify that finished products consistently meet customer and internal standards. Responsibilities Operate and monitor production equipment involved in mixing, extrusion, polishing, and finishing processes to ensure safe and efficient production. Read and follow manufacturing order instructions to determine which ingredients to gather, measure, weigh, and document for each batch. Measure and load ingredients, which may weigh up to 50 pounds, into mixers according to specified quantities and time requirements. Blend ingredients in mixers based on defined time and process specifications, then unload the mixer and transfer the mixed batch to the next process step. Process mixed batches through extrusion equipment to produce finished product, adjusting controls as needed to maintain proper flow and consistency. Use product controls and sensory evaluations to confirm that products meet customer specifications throughout the extrusion process. Manage and transfer finished product from extrusion and drying processes using drums, carts, or trays to designated areas or next process steps. Operate polishing equipment by loading finished product from drums, carts, or trays into polishing pans and adding liquid ingredients by hand or through automated systems. Apply the finishing touch on products using the panning and polishing processes to achieve the required appearance and quality. Handle the transfer of finished products from extrusion processes to subsequent processes, ensuring proper labeling, handling, and staging. Use hand tools such as RF scanners, hand trucks, and sifting screeners to support production, material movement, and quality checks. Follow written operating instructions, safety rules, manuals, and shipping documents accurately to maintain compliance and product quality. Adhere strictly to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), including required sanitation and hygiene procedures before entering production areas. Participate in hands-on training and apply learned skills to continuously improve performance and efficiency on the production line. Work assigned shifts and be willing to work overtime and occasional Saturdays to support production demands while maintaining reliability and teamwork. Essential Skills At least 1 year of recent manufacturing experience in production, preferably in a food or similar process environment. Experience with mixing, extrusion, batching, polishing, and finishing processes preferred; training provided if needed. Ability to use hand tools such as RF scanners, hand trucks, and sifting screeners in a production environment. Ability to lift and move up to 50-60 pounds with or without accommodation on a regular basis. Strong English and math skills, including the ability to read, write, and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, manuals, and shipping documents. Willingness to work overtime and occasional Saturdays as production needs require. Demonstrated reliability, flexibility, and ability to work effectively as part of a team. Comfort working in a structured environment with strict adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and sanitation procedures. Additional Skills & Qualifications Prior experience in a food production or GMP-regulated environment. Familiarity with operating or monitoring automated production equipment. Experience performing basic sensory checks on products to verify quality. Ability to follow detailed written procedures and manufacturing orders with a high level of accuracy. Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining product quality and safety. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Elk Grove Village, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
