Job Title:
Production Worker Job Description The Production Worker operates and monitors manufacturing processes including mixing, extrusion, polishing, and finishing to produce high-quality food products. This role involves accurately measuring and loading ingredients, running production equipment, transferring batches between processes, and ensuring that all products meet established quality and safety specifications in a Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) environment. Responsibilities Operate and monitor production processes including mixing, extrusion, polishing, and finishing to ensure consistent product quality. Read and follow manufacturing order instructions to determine required ingredients, quantities, and process parameters. Gather, measure, weigh, and document ingredients according to manufacturing orders, ensuring accuracy and traceability. Load ingredients weighing up to 50 lbs. into mixers and blend them based on specified time and process requirements. Unload mixers and transfer mixed batches safely and efficiently to the next process stage. Run extrusion equipment to process mixed batches into finished product, adjusting controls as needed to maintain specifications. Use product controls and sensory checks to verify that the finished product matches customer specifications throughout the extrusion process. Manage and transfer finished product from extrusion and drying processes using drums, carts, or trays. Perform polishing operations by loading finished product into polishing pans and adding liquid ingredients by hand or through automated systems. Manage the transfer of finished products from extrusion processes to subsequent processes, ensuring proper handling and identification. Use hand tools such as RF scanners, hand trucks, and sifting screeners to support production and material handling activities. Follow all GMP, safety, and sanitation procedures, including proper washing and sanitizing before entering production areas and rooms. Maintain a clean and organized work area and comply with all uniform and personal protective equipment requirements. Work overtime and occasional Saturdays as needed to support production schedules. Collaborate with team members and communicate effectively with supervisors to resolve issues and maintain smooth operations. Essential Skills At least 1 year of recent manufacturing experience in production. Experience with mixing, extrusion, batching, polishing, or finishing processes (training provided if needed). Ability to lift and move up to 50-60 lbs. with or without accommodation. Ability to use hand tools such as RF scanners, hand trucks, and sifting screeners. Strong English and math skills, including the ability to read, write, and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, manuals, and shipping documents. Willingness to work overtime and occasional Saturdays. Reliable, flexible, and able to work effectively as part of a team. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience in a food manufacturing or GMP-regulated environment. Familiarity with operating production machinery such as mixers, extruders, and polishing equipment. Comfort working with standard operating procedures and quality specifications. Work Environment This role is based in a food manufacturing facility that follows strict Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Team members wear a uniform, hair net, beard net if applicable, and safety shoes, and must wash and sanitize hands and boots before entering the production floor and each production room. The site includes eight production rooms and four packaging lines, with a structured and hygiene-focused workflow. Production workers may be assigned to either 1st shift (3:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m.) or 2nd shift (2:00 p.m.-12:30 a.m.), with initial orientation for both shifts running from 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. for two days before transitioning to the designated shift. The environment is hands-on, fast-paced, and team-oriented, with regular use of production machinery, RF scanners, hand trucks, and sifting equipment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Elk Grove Village, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr.
