General Production Worker (Machine Operator / Finisher - 3rd Shift) Job Description This role combines general production work with machine operation and finishing duties in a high-heat manufacturing environment. You will operate and support rotational molding machines, prepare and measure raw materials, and complete finishing tasks such as cleaning, assembling, and labeling plastic products. The position requires regular heavy lifting, comfort working in a hot facility, and availability for weekend overtime during peak seasons. Responsibilities Operate and support production machinery, including rotational molding equipment used to bake and harden plastic components. Use hand tools and power tools to assemble, finish, and prepare plastic products for shipment. Measure and weigh raw materials, including resins, prior to machine operation to ensure accurate production quantities. Follow written instructions and production guidelines to set up, run, and support machine operations safely and efficiently. Clean finished products and add required accessories to meet quality and customer specifications. Label, organize, and stage orders accurately to maintain workflow and inventory control. Lift and move materials and products, including up to 50 pounds and bulky plastic tanks that can be awkward to maneuver. Assist with general labor tasks on the production floor, including weighing product and assembling components as needed. Support different areas of the plant as required, learning new tasks and cross-training to eventually operate machinery independently. Work 3rd shift hours and perform overtime on Saturdays and other weekends as required during peak production periods. Adhere to all safety procedures, especially when working around high-heat equipment and using hand and power tools. Maintain a clean and organized work area to support safe and efficient production operations. Essential Skills Experience with hand tools and power tools in a production, construction, or similar environment. Background in heavy machine operation or construction, or comparable hands-on industrial experience. Ability to read and follow written instructions accurately in a production setting. Ability to read and use a basic weighing machine for raw materials such as resins. Comfort working in a hot environment around machinery that operates like ovens. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and handle bulky, awkward items such as large plastic tanks. Willingness and availability to work 3rd shift from 10:45 p.m. to 7:15 a.m., Monday through Saturday as required. Willingness to work overtime on Saturdays and other weekends during peak seasons, with a minimum of two Saturdays per month currently. Reliability and consistency in attendance and punctuality for overnight shifts. No high school diploma required. Additional Skills & Qualifications Prior experience in general labor, production, or assembly work. Familiarity with production machinery or rotational molding equipment. Experience working in high-temperature industrial environments. Ability to multitask and assist in various production areas as needed. Interest in learning machine operation and growing into more advanced production responsibilities. Work Environment This is a 3rd shift role with standard hours of 10:45 p.m. to 7:15 a.m., Monday through Saturday, with overtime currently required on weekends and additional Saturday work during peak seasons. The facility operates 11 rotational molding machines that bake plastic, creating a very hot environment similar to working around large ovens. The production floor focuses on manufacturing plastic coolers, tanks used in agriculture and transportation, and other plastic parts. Team members work with basic hand tools and power tools, as well as weighing equipment for raw materials. The dress code allows shorts and short sleeves, which is practical given the high temperatures, and additional breaks are provided in the summer to help manage the heat. Employees are trained to operate machinery over time and are expected to assist wherever needed on the production floor, including weighing products, assembling components, and supporting general labor tasks in a busy, industrial plant setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of West Chicago, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
