Job Description

Overview Special Mine Services Inc. Special Mine Services Inc. (SMS) has been in operation since 1983 and is located just south of West Frankfort. We are Southern Illinois' best kept secret due to our quiet and steady success. At SMS we manufacture electrical connectors for the mining, tunneling and entertainment industry. We also have a state-of-the-art machine shop combined with a welding fabrication shop. We are currently looking for a General Laborer . This position will include other duties as assigned. This position is permanent and full-time. No travel and all dayshift hours. SMS is a Union shop.
  • Day shift / Mon
  • Fri 5:50 am to 2:20 pm
  • This is a Union position with a probation period of 1000 working hours
  • After 60 days you will be eligible for Health Insurance and other benefits
  • Wages will start at $22.00/hr during probation period of 1000 working hours
  • SMS is an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) with full vesting after 3 years
  • Yearly increases per Union contract Responsibilities
  • Assemble components using hand tools and power tools according to specifications
  • Utilize mechanical knowledge to assist in the fabrication process
  • Operate within a manufacturing facility environment to meet production goals
  • Work on the assembly line to ensure efficient product assembly
  • Handle materials and products within the warehouse as needed
  • Operate a forklift to transport materials within the facility Requirements
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing, assembly line, or factory setting is preferred
  • Proficiency with hand tools and power tools
  • Ability to operate a forklift safely and efficiently
  • Strong attention to detail and quality standards
  • Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects when required We look forward to meeting you!
