Job Description

Job Title:
General Production Worker Job Description This role supports steel manufacturing operations with a clear path to grow into a slitter operator position. You will work as part of a small team to operate and support machinery, handle materials, and perform quality checks. Training is provided, and candidates with basic machine operation experience and a strong safety mindset will be well positioned for success. Responsibilities Support daily production activities in a steel manufacturing environment as part of a 3-4 person team. Assist slitter operators and prepare to move into a future slitter operator role through on-the-job training. Help load and unload machinery safely and efficiently. Perform quality checks on steel during and after processing to ensure correct operation and product specifications. Use measurement tools, including micrometers, calipers, gauges, and tape measures, to verify dimensions and tolerances. Operate and assist with general production machinery, including presses and other large manufacturing equipment, as directed. Support packing operations and assist additional packers when needed. Handle shipping and receiving of materials within the facility. Move material around the facility using appropriate tools and equipment, following safe material-handling practices. Use hand tools and power tools for production, adjustment, and basic maintenance tasks as required. Collaborate closely with team members to meet production goals and maintain workflow across three shifts. Follow all safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment at all times. Maintain a clean and organized work area in a well-lit, modern facility. Essential Skills Previous manufacturing experience in a similar environment, such as press operation, steel production, heavier plastics, larger machinery, injection molding, or slitting. Ability to lift up to 75 pounds safely and repeatedly as part of daily duties. Ability to read a tape measure accurately to 1/16 of an inch. Comfort working in teams of 3-4 people in a fast-paced production setting. Experience using hand tools and power tools in a manufacturing or industrial environment. Basic machine operation experience, particularly with presses, steel processing, or large machinery. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality when inspecting steel and finished products. Consistent adherence to safety protocols in an industrial or manufacturing environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience operating overhead cranes in a production or warehouse environment. Previous slitter operator experience in a steel or similar operation. Forklift operating experience in a manufacturing or distribution setting. Direct experience working with steel materials in a production environment. Willingness to learn advanced slitter operation and other machinery through on-the-job training. Ability to work across three different shifts (6:00-2:00, 2:00-10:00, 10:00-6:00) as assigned. Reliability and flexibility to work additional hours before or after scheduled shifts when needed to support operations. Why Work Here? Work Environment The role is based in a 40-50 person steel manufacturing facility that emphasizes cleanliness, organization, and safety. The operation is a clean steel environment with a well-lit facility and newer machinery.
Production runs on three shifts:
6:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m., and 10:00 p.m.-6:00 a.m., with a typical 40-hour workweek. Overtime is available and generally voluntary, with occasional mandated overtime to cover vacations. Work involves standing, moving materials, and lifting up to 75 pounds in a busy production area. Required personal protective equipment includes a hard hat, safety glasses, arm sleeves, hearing protection in designated areas, and a high-visibility vest. Steel-toe shoes are required, and the company provides uniforms to employees. You will work around steel processing equipment, including slitters, presses, and other large machinery, and may use overhead cranes, forklifts, hand tools, and power tools as part of daily activities. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Butler, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $20.00/hr.
