Job Description

Job Title:
General Production Job Description This role supports a fast-paced manufacturing facility that produces large cables for power applications. You visually inspect cables as they come off the production line, tag and identify defective product, move materials throughout the facility using a pallet jack, and assist in various areas of the plant. You help keep production running smoothly by palletizing, packing, cleaning, and stepping in where needed across the manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Perform visual inspection of cables as they come off the production line to ensure quality and identify defects. Tag broken or nonfunctional wire clearly so that it can be removed or reworked. Use a pallet jack to move raw materials, finished goods, and other items throughout the facility safely and efficiently. Palletize and pack materials according to production and shipping requirements. Assist in multiple areas of the manufacturing plant, including inventory, shipping, and production, as needed. Support general cleaning and housekeeping to maintain a safe, organized, and efficient work area. Follow all safety procedures when working around large industrial machinery and heavy materials. Work rotating 12-hour shifts, including nights and days, and support overtime needs as scheduled. Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to coordinate work and maintain production flow. Use basic computer skills, as needed, to support production, tracking, or machine operation tasks. Essential Skills Previous manufacturing experience. Ability to lift 50 pounds or more on a regular basis. Ability to work overtime, including some Saturdays, as required. Experience working in a general production or manufacturing environment. Ability to safely operate a pallet jack to move materials. Comfort working in a fast-paced, physically demanding setting. Willingness to work rotating 12-hour shifts (days and nights). Additional Skills & Qualifications Machine operating experience in a manufacturing environment. Experience with packing, production, or material handling. Basic computer skills and comfort being computer savvy. Bilingual communication skills. Ability to adapt to different tasks and assist in various departments as needed. Why Work Here? Work Environment The facility manufactures large cables for power applications using a unique production process with very large, older industrial machinery. The environment is fast paced, with an inventory area, shipping department, and manufacturing department working closely together. The plant is currently undergoing expansion, and a newer manufacturing supervisory team leads daily operations. Temperatures can be hot in the summer and cold in the winter, so you should be comfortable working in varying conditions. The role follows a rotating 12-hour shift schedule: typically 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. on nights with some Saturdays, then rotating to 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on days for a period before returning to nights, averaging roughly 65 hours per week. Steel-toe footwear is required, along with long pants and work-appropriate attire, to support a safe and professional industrial work setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Valparaiso, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
