Job Description
Back Control Room Operator-I @ Teche Energy Job Description The Control Room Operator-I is responsible for supporting plant operations through the safe, stable, and efficient use of control systems, including the Distributed Control System (DCS/HMI). This role ensures process conditions are maintained within defined limits, supports production targets, and coordinates closely with field operators, maintenance, and supervision. The position requires continuous monitoring of plant performance, adherence to safety and environmental standards, and accurate documentation of operational activities. Employees are not limited to the following key roles and responsibilities and may be asked to perform additional duties, as required. Key Responsibilities and Duties Follow and adhere to all site Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies, procedures, and company operational standards to maintain a safe, compliant, and efficient control room and plant environment Operate and monitor plant systems using DCS/HMI interfaces to maintain safe and stable process conditions Continuously monitor process trends, alarms, production rates, equipment status, and utility systems, taking appropriate action when abnormal conditions arise Maintain process variables within established operating limits to ensure product quality, safety, and production efficiency Monitor and respond to alarms in a timely manner, prioritizing based on risk and operational impact, and escalating issues as necessary Coordinate with field operators to execute process adjustments, equipment checks, troubleshooting activities, and routine rounds Maintain clear and consistent communication with field personnel and supervision throughout the shift regarding plant status and operational priorities Initiate and support emergency response actions in accordance with established procedures when required Participate in shift handovers and safety meetings, ensuring accurate communication of plant conditions, ongoing issues, and priorities Coordinate production activities to support throughput targets, monitor inventories and tank levels, and communicate potential production risks Support maintenance activities by coordinating equipment outages, verifying isolation status, and assisting with safe startup and return-to-service activities Monitor product quality trends and coordinate sampling activities, making process adjustments as needed and notifying supervision of quality concerns Complete and maintain accurate control room logs, including plant status, production data, operational issues, and equipment outages Document abnormal events, maintain shift reports, and ensure detailed shift turnover notes are communicated effectively Follow approved operating procedures and provide input for continuous improvement of processes, safety, reliability, and production stability Support the training and development of new and existing operators by sharing knowledge and assisting with procedural or simulator training Maintain awareness of site access and operational conditions that may impact contractor or personnel safety during plant activities Support plant startups, shutdowns, commissioning activities, and turnaround planning as required How to
