This is a full-time, temp-to-perm role with comprehensive on-site training provided—prior semiconductor fabrication or laser manufacturing experience is not required. In this role, you will perform high-precision chemical, optical, and mechanical processes to transform advanced III-V compound semiconductor wafers into discrete laser diode chips. If you have steady hands, fine-motor control, and a strong interest in high-tech cleanroom manufacturing, this is a great opportunity to gain specialized, in-demand technical skills. Key Responsibilities Tasks are assigned based on your training, aptitude, and facility production needs, including:
  • Performing hands-on wafer production steps such as photolithography, wet and dry chemical etching, and thin-film metallization.
  • Handling production chemicals safely and strictly according to protocol, including hydrofluoric acid, hydrochloric acid, phosphoric acid, and hydrogen peroxide.
  • Mounting, grinding, and thinning delicate semiconductor wafers using a slurry-based lapping wheel.
  • Measuring and inspecting wafers for dimensions, surface defects, and thickness using precision instruments such as optical microscopes, profilometers, and ellipsometers.
  • Handling delicate, fragile wafers and chips safely using vacuum wands and micro-tweezers to prevent damage or contamination.
  • Performing basic setup, calibration, minor tooling adjustments, and routine preventative maintenance on wafer fab equipment under engineering guidance.
  • Reviewing work orders, accessing standard operating procedures (SOPs), and logging run data, inspection results, and equipment status into computer tracking systems.
  • Maintaining clean, organized workstations and adhering strictly to cleanroom safety and contamination-control rules.
  • Identifying and recommending process or workflow improvements to supervisors and engineering leads.
Qualifications Required:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent, along with at least six months of relevant hands-on manufacturing, mechanical, technical, or assembly experience/training.
  • Must qualify as a U.S. Person under U.S. law (required for regulatory compliance).
  • Excellent fine-motor skills and steady hands, including the ability to manipulate delicate, fragile materials using a vacuum wand or tweezers.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow written recipes, procedures, and safety guidelines accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail, reliability, and good organizational habits.
  • Ability to perform repetitive precision tasks with consistent high quality.
  • Basic computer proficiency for logging production metrics and reviewing electronic work orders.
  • Comfortable wearing full cleanroom garments (bunny suit, hood, boots, nitrile gloves, and eye protection) and working under cleanroom yellow lighting. Preferred (Not Required):
  • Previous background in semiconductor wafer fabrication, electronics manufacturing, medical device assembly, cleanroom operations, precision laboratory benchwork, jewelry repair, or detail-oriented chemical handling environments. Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work seated or stationary under a microscope and inspection stations for extended periods.
  • Repetitive hand movements and fine-motor manipulation throughout each shift.
  • Ability to distinguish fine visual features, surface irregularities, and microscopic defects.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
