General Production Worker Job Description This role supports a busy manufacturing facility by handling stainless steel and rebar materials, operating manual cutting equipment, and assisting with material flow throughout the production process. You will work with overhead cranes, perform general labor tasks, and help maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment while contributing to the production of rebar for construction projects. Responsibilities Load and unload stainless steel and rebar materials safely and efficiently. Operate manual machines to cut rebar according to specified measurements and production requirements. Use an overhead crane to load and unload trucks and move materials around the facility. Handle materials throughout the production process, including prepping material for operators, loading for production, unloading, and staging after production. Clean and stack rebar in an organized manner to support smooth workflow and inventory control. Perform general shop cleaning, including sweeping, organizing, and maintaining a safe work area. Use a tape measure accurately to verify lengths and dimensions of materials before and after cutting. Follow production instructions and work closely with operators and other team members to meet daily output goals. Apply safe work practices at all times when working with machinery, overhead cranes, forklifts, and hand tools. Assist with basic assembly tasks and other general labor duties as needed to support production operations. Essential Skills Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure. Proficiency in basic math functions, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Ability to apply math comprehension to practical tasks, such as determining how many pieces of a specified length can be cut from a 60-foot bar. Capability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. Agility to move in and out of flatbed trucks throughout the shift. Good work ethic and reliability in a production or manufacturing setting. Previous manufacturing or production experience. Experience with general labor tasks in an industrial or construction environment. Ability to use basic hand tools safely and effectively. Comfort working with machines and learning machine operation procedures. Willingness to wear required personal protective equipment, including steel-toe footwear. Additional Skills & Qualifications Background in carpentry or concrete work. Previous experience in construction environments. Prior hands-on experience with machine operation or general production work. Experience using an overhead crane, forklifts, or similar material-handling equipment. Familiarity with assembly tasks in a manufacturing or industrial setting. Comfort working in loud, dusty, and non-climate-controlled environments. Work Environment This position is based in an industrial hanger-style facility where rebar is delivered, unloaded by forklift, and processed using benders, shearers, and other equipment to mold rebar to order for construction projects. The environment can be loud and dusty, and it is not climate controlled, so temperatures will reflect seasonal conditions. Work is hands-on and physically active, involving frequent lifting, material handling, and movement in and out of flatbed trucks. The standard shift runs from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with overtime that may extend the workday to 5:00 or 6:00 p.m. as needed. Employees must wear steel-toe footwear, and the company provides the remaining required personal protective equipment to support a safe working environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Hagerstown, MD. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $19.00/hr.
