As a Manufacturing Summer Intern, you'll work on impactful projects, collaborate with industry professionals, and gain hands-on exposure to manufacturing processes that drive innovation and efficiency.
Job Description:
- Support the First Shift Supervisor with daily floor activities including standup meetings, shift transitions, and tier-board updates
- Perform 5S audits and execute corrective actions on assigned lines
- Conduct time studies and cycle-time validations on CNC operations as directed
- Collect, enter, and clean operational data in Plex (production counts, scrap codes, downtime entries) under supervisor oversight
- Pull and organize scrap data for weekly Pareto reviews by part number and root cause
- Assist with visual management — updating boards, posting reaction plans at point of use, refreshing standard work documentation
- Support training record reconciliation against the operator skills matrix
- Operate a sit-down or stand-up forklift (hi-lo) after completion of AAM internal training and OSHA-compliant certification
- Move material, stage tooling, and support line changeovers under operator/supervisor direction
- Observe and document workflow on assigned lines (OP20, 60s, 80s1, Shapers, EOL, Ring Gear) to support continuous improvement
- Attend and observe daily 6:30 AM and 1:50 PM tier meetings Required Skills and Education Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program (any major considered; engineering, business, supply chain, or manufacturing tech preferred) Minimum 18 years of age (federal labor law requirement for powered industrial truck operation) Valid driver's license Reliable transportation; consistent attendance is non-negotiable Basic Microsoft Excel proficiency (sort, filter, basic formulas) Willingness to work in a manufacturing environment — heat, noise, oil mist, repetitive movement Ability to lift up to 35 lbs occasionally
