Job Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Shipfitter to join our dynamic manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for assembling, fitting, and installing metal components and structures with precision and adherence to technical specifications. Your expertise in metal fabrication, blueprint reading, and welding techniques will be essential in delivering high-quality shipbuilding projects. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to complex fabrication processes in a fast-paced environment, ensuring safety, efficiency, and excellence in every task. Duties Interpret mechanical blueprints, technical drawings, and manufacturing specifications to accurately fabricate and assemble ship components. Measure, cut, shape, and fit sheet metal and other metal materials using calipers, micrometers, and measuring instruments to ensure precise dimensions. Perform welding operations including MIG (Metal Inert Gas), TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas), FCAW (Flux-Cored Arc Welding), SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding), and stick welding according to AWS (American Welding Society) standards. Use power tools and hand tools such as grinders, drills, plasma cutters, and fabrication shop equipment to complete assembly tasks efficiently. Fabricate structural elements by cutting, shaping, welding, and assembling metal parts while maintaining safety protocols at all times. Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and shop math to ensure accurate fabrication and assembly of ship structures. Maintain a clean and organized work area while adhering to safety procedures related to construction site operations, crane operation, forklift handling, machining, and plasma cutting. Qualifications Proven construction site experience with a focus on metal fabrication or shipbuilding projects. Proficiency in blueprint reading and mechanical blueprint interpretation. Skilled in various welding techniques including MIG, TIG, FCAW, SMAW, gas metal arc welding (GMAW), shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), and stick welding. Strong knowledge of sheet metal fabrication, mechanical fabrication processes, and the use of measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers. Experience operating power tools, forklifts, cranes, machining equipment, and plasma cutters within a manufacturing or construction environment. Ability to interpret technical drawings accurately while applying shop math for precise measurements. Mechanical knowledge combined with the ability to work safely following all safety protocols related to construction sites and fabrication shops. Basic math skills necessary for measurements and calculations involved in fabrication tasks.
