Job Description

Position Summary The Lead Press Operator is responsible for leading the production line, quality of the product produced, operating and maintaining the print press. This position will also be responsible for print press production and ensuring print press operators are adequately trained. This position is responsible for ensuring all of the process/procedures, setup, and cleanliness of the print press are maintained. This position is also responsible for ensuring all production goals and waste goals are met daily. Responsibilities Training
  • Responsible for conducting employee trainings and evaluating existing operators to be qualified trainers.
  • Complete team members training plans in a timely manner.
  • Assign employees to different areas of the press per training schedule to ensure all members have a clear understanding of the press and quality expectations.
  • Ensure employees are properly trained before delegating responsibilities. For example, an untrained employee should not be in the Ink Room.
  • Ensure production manager is aware of each team member's performance. If any team member is struggling to perform his/her job, this information must be shared with the Production Manager. Shift Duties
  • Use the 15-minute shift overlap to share updates with the new shift to ensure the necessary information is available to perform their role effectively.
Confirm that digital job folder is filled out correctly. Meet with Lead Press Operator, before and after each shift to review production, press/equipment issues, quality or printing issues, and any other information that is necessary for a seamless transition. Ensure that the correct supplies are staged/maintained for production.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and adhere to safety policies and requirement.
  • Communicate updates, production schedule, maintenance/cleaning schedule, etc. with team. Communication is critical. The Lead Press Operator will be responsible for ensuring the team is aware of the changeover duties and responsibilities so that the accurate resources are used to prepare for the job.
  • Meet quality and production expectations, documenting any issues on the shift report.
  • Production goal time efficiency is set to 70% and waste goal is 16.2% monthly. Lead Press Operator should be ensuring that the press is running as much as possible and producing the lowest amount of waste as possible.
  • Responsible for delegating work to the team, ensuring each team member completes tasks in a successful and timely manner. For example, the Lead Press Operator will delegate work to rewind and unwind, cleaning, maintenance, or to support inventory control.
  • Check quality of every flat sample taken from each roll.
  • Check colors with the X-rite, per customer specifications, and have Unwind Operator make adjustments as needed. For example, toning or extending color.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the specifications the Rewinder Operator are adding to the Data Sheet from the samples measured off the child rolls are correct. Perform routine checks and make adjustments to knives or tension accordingly.
  • Maintain child roll information in the BST file to ensure the roll can be renamed to match the printed child roll label.
  • Check the BST files for any defects and waste or rework child rolls accordingly.
  • Ensure quality systems are beings followed.
  • Troubleshooting procedure to be followed at all times.
  • Act as the safety facilitator for your designated area.
  • Retain first responder certification.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. Cleaning
  • Complete Daily Shift Cleaning within SharePoint.
  • Complete Weekly Shift Cleaning within SharePoint.
  • Ensure work areas are clean and free from potential contamination risks.
  • Maintain housekeeping in work area. Ensure employees are following recycling policy and set expectations. Check the dumpster area during each shift and ensure waste is being properly disposed. All waste that is recyclable must be in the assigned dumpster location. AX
  • Before and end of shift inventory check to ensure no child rolls are left on the line. If, any discrepancies found then they need to be addressed and corrected immediately.
  • Scanning of inventory, in and out. For example, mother rolls, cores, end caps, stretch film, inks and solvents.
  • Ensure all supplies being put back are wrapped, scanned, and returned to proper location on the racks.
  • Able to look up on hand inventory of various items within AX.
  • Report as Finished jobs as you complete them. Breaks
  • Manage the break schedule for the shift team, ensuring there is always coverage on the production floor. Ensure employees do not abuse the breaks schedule. Hazardous Waste Management
  • Periodic checks throughout the shift to ensure all containers are properly closed and labeled.
  • Periodically remove satellite containers to Central Accumulation area.
  • Comply with internal hazardous waste procedure.
  • Annual training course covers the rules and regulations, which govern the handling of hazardous, non-hazardous, and universal wastes and Industrial/Hazardous Waste Management.
Requirements & Experience High school diploma or equivalent Three years' experience as a print press operator and flexo engraver experienced preferred One to two years previous key leadership experience in a manufacturing environment preferred Basic computer experience required. Microsoft Office, Excel, and Microsoft AX experience, preferred. Good planning, organizational skills, and problem solving capabilities. Good judgement and decision-making skills. Good teamwork and communication skills Availability to work in shift models (24/5 // 24/7 - on 8 or 12 hour shifts) Willingness to work overtime as needed and to assist in other departments if necessary Ability to learn and comprehend entire manufacturing process with desire for upward mobility. Must be certified to operate forklift with the ability to mount/dismount forklift/truck Physical activity required including frequent bending, lifting, and standing Able to lift up to 50 lbs. Must adhere and comply with high hygiene standard (e.g. hair nets required and jewelry is not allowed)
