Keep industrial sewing equipment in the Sewing Department running safely, accurately, and with as little downtime as possible. Diagnose, repair, rebuild, and set up specialty machines used on zipper tape - production sewing. This is a hands-on mechanic role on the floor.
Essential duties:
Diagnose mechanical, timing, feed, tension, and stitch-formation problems on industrial sewing machines and related attachments. Perform preventative maintenance on a scheduled route: clean, oil, grease, inspect hooks, loops, feed dogs, needles, belts, clutches, motors, and safety devices. Time and set machines to spec (needle bar height, hook-to-needle clearance, feed dog height, presser-foot pressure, stitch length/width). Install, change over, and fine-tune folders, binders, tape guides, pullers, and custom attachments used on zipper and textile work.
Rebuild or replace worn parts:
hooks, bobbin cases, needle bars, bushings, gears, cams, clutches, and servo/clutch motors. Respond to line calls the same shift; restore machines to production quality, not just "running." Document work: machine ID, fault, parts used, time, and follow-up needed. Assist with moving, leveling, and installing machines when lines are rebalanced. Train operators on correct threading, needle type, and when not to keep sewing a bad machine. Other maintenance work as assigned when sewing equipment is current. QualificationsRequired High school diploma or GED. 3+ years repairing industrial sewing machines in a production plant (apparel, textile, footwear, leather, or similar). Home-machine or hobby experience does not qualify. Able to read machine manuals, parts lists, and timing diagrams. Competent with hand tools, gauges, and basic electrical checks on 110/220V motors and servos. Able to stand, bend, kneel, and lift up to 50 lb; work around oil, lint, and running equipment. Eligible to work in the United States. Reliable attendance, including overtime and occasional weekends when a line is down. Preferred Formal sewing-machine technician training (manufacturer school or trade program). Experience on automated or programmable units (pattern tackers, programmable bartacks, tape feeders). Basic welding or fabrication for brackets and guides. Bilingual English/Spanish helpful on the floor, not required. Familiarity with ISO / customer quality systems and documenting repairs. Machines and work environmentIndustrial production floor: noise, heat, lint, and oil are normal. Hearing protection and safety glasses as required. This plant supports zipper and related textile sewing for commercial and, where applicable, specified industrial/military work—repairs must hold stitch quality, not just keep a machine turning.
