Make an Impact. Phillips Precision is a leading manufacturer of orthopedic implants and medical devices serving the medical industry with precision-machined components and finishing services. We are seeking a Hands-On Finishing Manager who enjoys being actively involved on the production floor while leading and developing a skilled finishing team. This is not a desk job. We are looking for a leader who can roll up their sleeves, work alongside their team, solve problems in real time, and drive quality, productivity, and continuous improvement throughout the finishing department. What You'll Do Lead and support daily finishing operations including deburring, belting, grinding, polishing, buffing, and surface finishing of orthopedic implants and medical device components. Operate and troubleshoot finishing equipment such as glass bead blasting, centrifugal finishing equipment, passivation processes, and various hand tools. Plan, prioritize, and manage production schedules to meet customer requirements and delivery commitments. Assign work and provide clear direction to team members to maximize productivity and quality. Train, mentor, and develop finishing personnel while promoting accountability and teamwork. Monitor product quality and ensure all work meets customer specifications and medical device manufacturing standards. Partner with Engineering, Quality, Inspection, and Production teams to resolve issues and improve workflow. Support new product introductions (NPI) and assist with process development and optimization. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement, increased efficiency, and waste reduction. Participate in hiring, performance reviews, employee development, and corrective action processes. Maintain a safe, organized, and compliant work environment. QualificationsRequired 5+ years of hands-on metal finishing experience in a manufacturing environment. 2+ years of leadership, supervisory, or management experience. Experience with deburring, polishing, grinding, buffing, blasting, and related finishing processes. Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and work instructions. Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills. Ability to lead by example and work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Preferred Experience finishing orthopedic implants, surgical instruments, or other medical device products. Familiarity with
GMP, ISO
13485, FDA-regulated manufacturing, or similar quality systems. Experience with passivation and surface finishing processes for stainless steel and titanium components. Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement experience.
