Job Description

Job Title:
Brake Press Operator Job Description This role involves setting up and operating press brake machines to bend, form, and fabricate sheet metal and plate components according to engineering drawings and specifications. You ensure parts meet precise dimensional requirements by interpreting blueprints and work orders, selecting appropriate tooling and machine settings, and using precision measuring instruments. You work in a fast-paced machine shop environment where accuracy, safety, and quality are essential. Responsibilities Set up and operate press brake machines to bend sheet metal and plate to required dimensions and specifications. Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and shop drawings to determine job requirements. Select and install proper tooling, dies, and machine settings for each job based on material type and thickness. Measure, inspect, and verify part dimensions using calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring tools to ensure accuracy. Perform adjustments, offsets, and program edits as needed to maintain dimensional accuracy and product quality. Monitor machine operation during production and make necessary corrections to prevent defects and maintain consistency. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with standard operating procedures. Follow standard operating procedures and comply with company policies and OSHA safety requirements. Perform routine machine maintenance, such as cleaning, lubrication, and basic troubleshooting. Report mechanical issues or equipment malfunctions promptly to ensure minimal downtime. Work efficiently in a fast-paced machine shop environment while meeting production schedules and quality standards. Essential Skills Previous experience operating press brake machines in a production or machine shop environment. Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, work orders, and shop drawings. Above-average math skills to calculate dimensions, bend allowances, and machine settings. Ability to use precision measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers to verify part dimensions. Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand machine functions and metal forming processes. Problem-solving skills to identify and correct issues related to part quality, tooling, and machine settings. Basic knowledge of metal types, thicknesses, and bending characteristics. Experience with CNC press brake operation and machine programming or program edits. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds safely and repeatedly as required by the job. Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high quality and safety standards. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working with sheet metal fabrication in a machine shop environment. Hands-on experience with production machine operation beyond press brakes. Familiarity with standard operating procedures and OSHA safety guidelines. Ability to maintain and perform basic preventive maintenance on press brake equipment. Strong organizational skills to keep work areas clean, orderly, and efficient. Willingness to support additional shifts or overtime based on business volume. Work Environment You work in a climate-controlled machine shop that supports comfort and consistency throughout the year. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with additional Saturday hours typical during periods of high business volume. The environment is fast-paced and production-oriented, with a focus on safety, organization, and adherence to standard operating procedures. You operate press brake and related CNC equipment, handle sheet metal and plate materials, and use precision measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers as part of daily work. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Claremore, OK. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $23.00/hr.
