Machine Operator Job Description This role operates and sets up production machinery to support secondary operations in an injection molding environment. The Machine Operator performs tooling and equipment set-ups, installs injection molds, troubleshoots and repairs equipment, and ensures that machines consistently produce high-quality parts. The position requires mechanical aptitude, strong safety awareness, and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with maintenance and process engineering teams. Responsibilities Perform tooling set-ups, including installing tools and preparing machines to support secondary operations activities. Install injection molds and complete all related set-up processes to ensure equipment produces quality parts. Troubleshoot and repair equipment as needed, including replacing cutting tools, adjusting machine settings, and supporting automation systems. Monitor product quality and process productivity, making adjustments to maintain consistent output and reduce defects. Perform equipment set-ups as directed, ensuring machines are properly configured for each production run. Support maintenance systems and carry out maintenance-related activities as needed to keep equipment in good working order. Work closely with maintenance and process engineering teams to troubleshoot and repair system failures. Collect and enter data to support procedures, process improvements, and engineering tests. Train employees on the safe and effective use of technical equipment, including automation, CNC, and other machines. Interact with coworkers in a positive, professional manner and contribute to a collaborative team environment. Follow all safety practices, maintain awareness of occupational hazards, and promptly report any unsafe conditions. Perform other related duties as required to support production and operational goals. Essential Skills Strong mechanical aptitude and mechanically inclined mindset. Experience with machine operation and machine set-up in a manufacturing or production environment. Ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues and perform mechanical repairs on production equipment. Hands-on experience with hand tools and power tools, including wrenches and basic tool boxes. Basic to moderate computer skills, including familiarity with PCs and MS Office applications. Ability to read and work from blueprints or technical documentation. Experience with injection molding processes or similar manufacturing operations. Ability to support automation equipment and understand basic automation functions. Good time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet production schedules. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Good communication skills, with the ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety instructions in English. Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions, and to follow established safety practices. Capability to stand, walk, sit, and perform manual dexterity tasks regularly throughout the shift. Availability to work a swing shift from 5:30 pm to 4:00 am on a 4x10 schedule, including at least one weekend day. Use of safety toe shoes while working on the production floor. Additional Skills & Qualifications High School Diploma or GED preferred. Experience in automotive mechanics or automotive technology is beneficial. Work history in process technician roles or secondary operations (2nd ops) is an advantage. Comfort working with oil changes, mechanical assemblies, and related mechanical tasks. Ability to train others on automation, CNC, and other technical equipment. Ability to adapt to varying work schedules during training as needed. Work Environment The role is based in an injection metal molding facility with a production floor that is densely equipped with molding machines, creating a busy and fairly crowded environment. There is a strong emphasis on safety, and employees are expected to follow established safety procedures and use safety toe shoes while on the floor. The position follows a swing shift schedule from 5:30 pm to 4:00 am on a 4x10 schedule, with flexibility on days and the requirement to cover at least one weekend day (for example, Sunday-Wednesday or Wednesday-Saturday). During training, work schedules may vary. Daily work involves standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, and seeing, as well as frequent use of hand and power tools and other mechanical equipment in a manufacturing setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wilsonville, OR. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.60/hr.
