Job Description
Job Title:
Production Associate Job Description The Production Associate supports wire harness production in a prototype shop environment by assembling, testing, and inspecting electrical wire harnesses and related components. This role involves working from prints, schematics, and life-size CAD drawings to select the correct wire, cut it to length, terminate ends, attach connectors, assemble harnesses, and perform continuity and functional testing. The position includes both sitting and standing tasks, and comprehensive training is provided. Responsibilities Support wire harness production activities in the prototype shop from initial layout through final testing. Use prints, schematics, and life-size CAD drawings to determine the correct type of wire for each allocation. Cut wire to specified lengths using a computer interface and associated equipment. Print and label wires accurately according to specifications and documentation. Organize, route, and lay out wire harnesses in accordance with blueprints, CAD drawings, and established standards. Terminate wire ends and attach appropriate connectors following documented procedures. Use various hand tools, including snips, crimpers, tape measures, calipers, and other basic tools, to assemble wire harnesses and electrical components. Perform soldering tasks on wires and connectors as required for assembly. Test electrical assemblies and wire harnesses using Digital Multimeters and Cable Eye testing systems to verify continuity and accuracy. Inspect completed wire harnesses and assemblies to ensure they meet quality, accuracy, and continuity requirements. Follow written and verbal instructions carefully to maintain consistency and product quality. Maintain an organized work area, ensuring wires, tools, and components are properly labeled and stored. Collaborate with engineers and production team members to build and refine prototypes of new equipment or updates to existing equipment. Adhere to all safety procedures and guidelines while using tools, testing equipment, and production machinery. Report any discrepancies, defects, or issues with prints, components, or assemblies to the appropriate team members. Support continuous improvement efforts by providing feedback on assembly processes and documentation. Demonstrate reliability and dependability by maintaining consistent attendance and meeting production expectations. Essential Skills At least 1 year of experience in assembly and/or wiring in a production or similar environment. Ability to read and interpret prints, schematics, and basic blueprints for electrical and mechanical assemblies. Ability to follow directions accurately, both written and verbal. Ability to read and use a tape measure and other measuring devices with precision. Understanding of basic mechanical concepts related to assembly and wiring. Experience with hand tools such as snips, crimpers, tape measures, and calipers. Ability to perform basic soldering tasks on electrical components and wiring. Experience with electronic assembly and wiring of cable and harness components. Ability to work with computer interfaces for printing and cutting wires. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in cutting, labeling, routing, and terminating wires. Dependability and consistency in meeting work schedules and production needs. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working with wire harness assembly in a prototype or low-volume production environment. Familiarity with reading and working from life-size CAD drawings for layout and routing. Experience using Digital Multimeters to test electrical assemblies and verify continuity. Experience using Cable Eye testing systems or similar harness testing equipment. Background in production, electronic assembly, or related manufacturing roles. Comfort using RF scanners or similar devices for tracking components or work orders. Ability to organize multiple wires and components while maintaining clear labeling and documentation. Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to collaborate with engineers on prototype builds. Interest in learning new tools, technologies, and processes related to wire harness production. Why Work Here? You will work in a supportive prototype environment where engineers and production staff collaborate closely to build innovative new equipment and improve existing products. The role offers a stable first-shift schedule, a good working atmosphere, and hands-on training to develop and grow your technical skills. You will have the opportunity to contribute directly to new product development while working at a pace that prioritizes quality, accuracy, and attention to detail. Work Environment The role is based in a small, fully functioning prototype shop that operates as a focused production area. Engineers work directly alongside production team members to build prototypes of new equipment and updates to existing equipment, fostering close collaboration and communication. The pace is generally slower than a high-volume production line, allowing greater emphasis on precision, accuracy, and problem-solving. Work may involve both sitting and standing throughout the shift, depending on the task at hand. The environment includes regular use of hand tools, measuring devices, soldering equipment, Digital Multimeters, Cable Eye testing systems, and computer interfaces for wire printing and cutting. Reliability, attention to detail, and adherence to safety and quality standards are essential in this setting. Dress is typical for a hands-on production and assembly environment, suitable for working with tools, wiring, and prototype equipment.
