Role Description The Retort Operator is a full-time, on-site role based in Northumberland, PA, responsible for operating and monitoring retort equipment used to process shelf-stable food products in Tetra Recart® packaging. Day-to-day tasks include setting up retort systems, loading and unloading product, verifying processing parameters, and ensuring all operations follow established safety, quality, and food safety standards. The Retort Operator records production data, performs routine equipment checks, troubleshoots basic mechanical issues, and promptly reports any deviations or concerns to leadership. This role works closely with production, quality assurance, and maintenance teams to maintain efficient workflow and minimize downtime. The position may involve working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, standing for extended periods, and following strict sanitation and cleanliness procedures. Qualifications Experience operating or working with industrial food processing or packaging equipment, preferably retort systems or similar thermal processing machinery. Knowledge of basic mechanical principles and ability to perform routine equipment checks, minor adjustments, and troubleshooting. Understanding of food safety, quality control, and sanitation practices in a manufacturing environment, including adherence to HACCP or similar standards. Ability to read and follow production schedules, standard operating procedures, and safety guidelines, with strong attention to detail and accuracy in recordkeeping. Comfort working in a fast-paced, team-based environment, with reliable time management and the ability to prioritize tasks during multiple production runs. Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift and move materials as needed, and safely work around heat, steam, and industrial machinery. High school diploma or equivalent; prior manufacturing or food production experience is preferred but not required. Commitment to safety, continuous improvement, and sustainability, with a willingness to learn new technologies and processes.
