Job Description

Under the direction of the Supervisor, Books Production or his designee, this position provides for the binding/re-binding and processing of materials. Responsible to pick daily cycle of books via Radio Frequency device. Operate various machines for the conversion of paperback books to hard cover, including: Polar Cutters, Rotary Gluing Machine, Case Maker, Versamatic, Laminator and Hydropress. Maintain an adequate inventory of fine sized Bindery board. Apply barcodes as needed. Inspect all re-processed materials for conformity to quality and customer specifications. Responsible to perform other duties of equal or lesser classification irrespective of required change in department, hours (including mandatory overtime) or work conditions as directed by supervisor. Responsible for regular, dependable attendance and punctuality. Maintain safe, clean and organized work areas. Cross training and substitution of tasks that may be of higher classification as may be required by supervision. High School diploma or equivalent. PC Proficiency and familiarity with Book Order Control System. Ability to read, write and follow verbal and written instructions. Flexible to make appropriate decisions regarding safety in handling materials and responsive to changing work environments. Ability to work/communicate effectively and respectfully with co-workers. Adhere to Brodart rules, policies and standards of conduct. Must be able to work in a production environment that may be subject to varied temperatures and other conditions, such as noise (conveyor), dust and glue or adhesives. Must be able to stand/walk for 8 hour shifts and possess the ability to frequently bend and lift 40 lbs and up to 70 lbs occasionally and push book trucks weighing several hundred pounds. This position is subject to scheduled overtime which may be required based on production needs.
