Who We Are The Duderstadt Center (DC) is located on the University of Michigan's North Campus and offers a wide range of resources and expertise to support students, faculty, and staff in their creative, collaborative, research, teaching, and learning endeavors. Among these is the Digital Media Commons (DMC), providing the University of Michigan community access to cutting-edge technologies supported by a team of experienced and passionate staff. We foster innovative approaches to research, teaching, learning, creation, and exploration within a student-centered environment that emphasizes interdisciplinarity, inclusivity, collaboration, and the advancement of climate and social justice. The DMC Media and Studio Arts (MSA) team operates various media production facilities, including a state-of-the-art video studio, a personal video studio, a professional audio recording studio, two electronic music studios, and several multimedia editing rooms. These together serve as a hub for collaboration, innovative research, and ideation in media creation and performance technologies. By empowering world-class productions, the MSA team provides support to students, staff, and faculty through state-of-the-art facilities, offering consultation, creative guidance, and production assistance. Our technology-rich studios continuously evolve based on the feedback and needs of the diverse communities we serve, making them valuable resources for the entire university community. Job Summary As a Production Specialist on the MSA team, your primary focus will be supporting productions onsite in our audio and video studios. The Audio Studios include three bookable rooms designed to foster experimentation, research, and the development of skills in audio production. Audio Studio A features five rooms: a control room, a main tracking room, two isolation booths, and an amp room. Audio Studios B and C are advanced recording laboratories conducive to a wide range of activities, including electronic music composition, recording experimentation, audio mixing for motion pictures, scientific investigations, and acoustic studies. The Video Studio is a spacious, 3,000-square-foot production studio equipped with comprehensive audio, video, and lighting equipment available to the entire University of Michigan community. It serves as a collaborative space where faculty, students, visiting educators, researchers, and artists from diverse backgrounds come together to create high-quality video content. Whether employing traditional production methods or exploring innovative technologies, projects in this studio exemplify learning, teaching, and exploration in media production. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals with strong and developing skills in audio, video, and the performing arts to work directly with students and faculty, enabling their creative projects in our studios. This position reports to the Managing Producer of the studio(s) and does not include direct supervisory responsibilities. What You'll Do 70% Studio and Production Activities Attend Studio Production Meetings between MSA and clients. Assist in supporting and operating studio systems including ensuring the safe and proper operation of studio equipment, systems, and working environment. Maintain Studio cleanliness and organization daily. Assist in capturing production activity and studio resources for documentation, promotional and archival purposes. 15% Administrative and Operational Activities Attend Administrative Meetings Collaborate with the MSA team and DMC on long term project planning and research. 10% Professional Development Stay current on production technologies, industry trends and offerings from peer institutions. Create a yearly professional development plan to keep up to date and learn new production skills, emerging technologies, professional networking and bolster administrative experience through University provided training. 5% Post Production Activities Assist in studio media management The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work to be performed and are not an exhaustive list of all associated responsibilities. Required Qualifications• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in studio production, theatrical production, media arts, or a related field. 2 or more years of professional experience in audio and/or video production. Working independently and self motivation to complete assigned tasks. Minimum two years of experience using post-production software such as Adobe CC, Premier, Avid, Logic, and Pro Tools. Must be an enthusiastic learner willing to assist in varying production roles. Strong organizational skills; ability to interface well with students, faculty and staff from many disciplines; demonstrated ability to handle multiple complex tasks. Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work with others. Ability to routinely move items weighing up to 50 pounds and to occasionally work at heights of up to 20 feet. Ability to work both day and evening shifts as needed to meet production demands.
