Job Title:
Grinder Job Description This role focuses on precision grinding and finishing of galvanized metal trailers in a solo work setting. You wear an air-conditioned air suit and use a variety of power tools and hand tools to smooth surfaces, correct imperfections, and ensure each trailer meets high quality standards. The position suits individuals who are self-motivated, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently while following strict safety procedures and production guidelines. Responsibilities Operate dual-action sanders, electric grinders, and high-speed grinders with meticulous attention to detail to smooth crevices and correct flawed areas on trailers. Perform metal finishing and surface grinding to achieve clean, consistent, and visually appealing finishes on galvanized parts. Use hand tools such as wrenches, pliers, torque wrenches, power bleeders, and files to complete assembly and finishing tasks. Inspect and feel workpieces throughout the process to verify that surfaces meet established quality and safety standards. Bleed trailer brakes accurately by following manuals, work instructions, and standard operating procedures. Use measuring tapes, combination squares, and levels to confirm correct dimensions, alignment, and fit of components. Maintain, organize, and clean the workstation and equipment, including changing grinding pads and performing basic tool upkeep. Follow all safety regulations and personal protective equipment requirements, including proper use of gloves, face shields, and steel-toe footwear. Demonstrate a strong commitment to quality and craftsmanship, consistently delivering work that reflects the company's mission and standards. Ensure all actions comply with applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Participate in cross-training activities and perform other related duties as assigned to support production needs. Essential Skills Hands-on experience operating dual-action sanders, electric grinders, high-speed grinders, and hand grinders. Proficiency with general hand tools such as wrenches, pliers, torque wrenches, files, and power bleeders. Experience with metal finishing, sanding, and surface grinding on production parts. Ability to perform basic assembly and general labor tasks in a production environment. Skill in using measuring tools such as measuring tapes, combination squares, and levels to verify accuracy. Strong attention to detail and ability to identify and correct surface imperfections by sight and touch. Comfort working independently in a solo facility while staying self-motivated and productive. Commitment to following written work instructions, manuals, safety regulations, and PPE requirements. Ability to maintain a clean, organized, and safe workstation. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in grinding, metal finishing, or related production roles. Experience with welding or working around welding operations. Previous work with custom or small-batch manufacturing environments. Willingness to cross-train in additional production and assembly tasks. Work Environment The role is based in a production facility focused on building custom boat trailers. You work in a solo setting while wearing an air-conditioned air suit, using grinders, sanders, hand tools, and measuring tools throughout your shift. The environment includes typical manufacturing conditions and is not fully climate controlled, though the team provides chilled beverages and treats during warmer months to help keep employees comfortable. Work is performed on A and B shifts with flexible schedules, and you are expected to follow all safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including gloves, face shields, and steel-toe shoes. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Maryville, TN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.96 - $19.96/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
