Job Title:
Production Associate Job Description This Production Associate role supports a high-volume manufacturing operation by inspecting, handling, and packaging glass products while operating equipment safely and efficiently. You will work in a clean, well-organized plant environment, follow established procedures, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. This is an entry-level position with structured training, clear progression to Production Technician, and a defined path into a union environment. Responsibilities Conduct thorough visual inspections of glass products to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications. Follow all safety procedures, quality guidelines, performance expectations, and attendance rules at all times. Load and unload glass on various conveyor systems in a safe and efficient manner. Move racks of product using powered industrial trucks such as forklifts, following all operating and safety protocols. Band racks of product according to specified requirements to secure items for storage or shipment. Pack products into racks for shipment to other areas of the plant or directly to customers, ensuring correct placement and protection. Perform adjustments and minor repairs to machinery as needed or as directed by supervision to maintain smooth production flow. Generate, complete, and maintain required production and quality records accurately and on time. Achieve and maintain operator certification in all functions performed, including equipment operation and inspection tasks. Participate in and support continuous improvement and LEAN initiatives to enhance safety, quality, and efficiency. Work collaboratively with team members across shifts to ensure consistent production and handoffs. Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper handling and storage of materials and equipment. Adhere to attendance expectations, particularly during the initial 90-day period, to support stable production schedules. Essential Skills Experience working in a warehouse, plant, or general production environment. Ability to perform visual inspection of products with strong attention to detail. Experience with general production, assembly, or machine operation tasks. Ability to operate or learn to operate forklifts and other powered industrial trucks safely. Capability to perform basic machine operation, including adjustments and minor repairs as directed. Comfort with general labor tasks such as loading, unloading, packing, and packaging. Willingness and ability to work 12-hour shifts on a rotating schedule (including days or nights). Reliability and strong attendance, especially during the first 90 days, with adherence to attendance policies. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, safety rules, and standard operating procedures. Physical ability to stand for extended periods, move racks, and handle glass products safely. Willingness to train initially on day shift and then transition to assigned night or rotating shifts. Additional Skills & Qualifications 1-2 years of experience working with machines or operating production machinery for certain assembly and machine-focused roles. Prior experience in quality inspection roles within a warehouse or plant environment. Willingness to obtain and maintain operator certifications for all functions performed. Interest in career progression from Production Associate to Production Technician and beyond. Comfort working in a unionized environment after the initial 90-day period. Work Environment The role is based in a plant production environment that is clean, safe, and well-organized. You will work around conveyor systems, powered industrial trucks, and production machinery, with strong emphasis on safety and proper training. Shifts are primarily 12-hour schedules, often following a 2-2-3 pattern on days or nights, with some roles assigned to C and D shifts. Certain positions follow a K shift schedule of Monday-Wednesday and every other Thursday from approximately 6:30 p.m. to 6:45 a.m. Training typically begins on first shift during the first week (Tuesday through Friday from approximately 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.) before transitioning to the assigned shift. The company provides high-visibility vests, hearing protection, and other necessary personal protective equipment. Safety shoes made of leather are required and must be obtained by employees. Attendance is critical, particularly during the first 90 days, and expectations are clearly defined to support a reliable and consistent work environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Vonore, TN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $17.98 - $19.48/hr.
