POSITION SUMMARY
The Packaging Lead is responsible for coordinating and overseeing daily packaging operations to ensure products are packaged safely, efficiently, and in compliance with FDA, cGMP, and company standards. This role provides hands-on leadership to Packaging Operators and Technicians, ensuring adherence to production schedules, quality requirements, and documentation accuracy. The Packaging Lead supports the Packaging Supervisor by maintaining workflow, resolving operational issues, and promoting a culture of safety, quality, and teamwork on the production floor.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS & DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO
Lead daily packaging line operations in accordance with production schedules and master manufacturing records (MMRs). Ensure packaging activities comply with
FDA 21 CFR
Part 111, cGMP, and company SOPs. Verify line setup, product labeling, and lot coding prior to start-up. Monitor line performance, output, and product quality during operations. Train and guide Packaging Operators and Technicians on proper line operation, documentation, and safety practices. Perform in-process quality checks and ensure accurate completion of batch records and packaging logs. Communicate and coordinate with Quality Assurance, Maintenance, and Warehouse teams to ensure smooth production flow. Identify and escalate production or equipment issues to the Supervisor promptly. Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety compliance on the packaging floor. Support troubleshooting and changeover activities to minimize downtime. Ensure equipment and materials are properly staged, cleaned, and documented after use. Participate in investigations, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives as assigned. Enforce compliance with PPE, safety, and hygiene policies at all times.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree or technical training preferred. 3-5 years of packaging experience in dietary supplement, nutraceutical, food, or pharmaceutical manufacturing. Strong understanding of
FDA 21 CFR
Part 111 and cGMP manufacturing standards. Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to train and supervise others effectively. Excellent attention to detail and commitment to product quality and documentation accuracy. Ability to interpret and follow master manufacturing records (MMRs) and SOPs precisely. Mechanical aptitude and experience with packaging machinery setup and troubleshooting. Effective communication and teamwork skills. Basic computer proficiency (ERP and Microsoft Office experience preferred).

Employee Responsibilities Adhere to cGMPs and SOPs. Report any situations that might harm food safety or quality immediately to the supervisor or QA Department. Ensure food safety and quality are maintained according to company standards. Comply with policies and procedures to prepare and pack products under sanitary conditions that do not expose it to the risk of contamination. Operate and maintain a clean and hygienic standard of operation. Always Follow Company CGMPS (Current Good Manufacturing Practices and Food Safety Policies). Supervisor Responsibilities Maintain a Food Safety Culture by regularly assessing the team's performance and understanding of food safety practices. Initiate decisions on corrective action that support resolution and improved policies and procedures. Communicate to employees any opportunity to improve team performance to achieve greater levels of product safety and quality. Comply with policies and procedures to prepare and pack the product under sanitary conditions that do not expose it to the risk of contamination. Encourage and maintain a strong food safety culture by ensuring employees are knowledgeable of food safety policies and procedures, as well as empowered to report events that could impact the food safety of the product
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Frequent standing and walking throughout packaging operations. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally. Manual dexterity to operate and adjust packaging equipment. Repetitive bending, reaching, and twisting during product handling. Must be able to wear PPE, including gloves, hairnets, masks, and safety glasses.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Packaging floor environment with exposure to moderate noise, powders, and temperature variations. Must adhere to GMP, hygiene, and safety standards at all times. Fast-paced, production-driven environment requiring precision and consistency. Regular collaboration with Quality, Maintenance, and Production teams. May require extended hours or weekend work during peak production cycles.
