Job Description

Job Title:
Trades Helper Job Description This role supports marine trades work in a shipyard and shop environment by assisting with installations, basic fabrication, and general trade tasks. You will learn to read and interpret drawings and specifications, safely use hand and power tools, and support skilled trades professionals across various marine systems. This position is ideal for someone who has a strong desire to learn, enjoys hands-on work, and wants to build a long-term career in marine trades. Responsibilities Read, interpret, and apply drawings and specifications to determine installation requirements for marine systems and components. Assist marine trades professionals with installations, repairs, and maintenance tasks in a shipyard and shop environment. Use basic hand and power tools safely and effectively to support tasks such as cutting, fastening, and assembling materials. Support shipyard activities including work related to lagging, conduit, wiring, and other industrial marine applications. Assist with basic electrical and wiring tasks under guidance, including work involving conduit and industrial marine systems. Provide support to sonar technicians, welders, fabricators, pipefitters, and mechanics as needed. Help with basic welding and fabrication preparation tasks, such as material handling, layout assistance, and equipment setup under supervision. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in both shipyard and shop settings. Follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment at all times, including hard hat, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots. Collaborate with team members and supervisors to complete assigned tasks on schedule and according to specifications. Demonstrate a willingness to learn new skills and take on increasing levels of responsibility over time. Essential Skills Ability to read, interpret, and apply drawings and specifications to determine installation requirements. Basic knowledge of how to use hand tools safely and effectively. Basic knowledge of how to use power tools safely and effectively. Strong desire and aptitude to learn new marine trade skills. Ability to work safely in a shipyard and shop environment while following established safety procedures. Willingness to wear and properly use required personal protective equipment, including hard hat, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots. Ability to support marine trades tasks involving shipyard operations and industrial environments. Capacity to follow instructions, work as part of a team, and complete tasks accurately. Additional Skills & Qualifications Exposure to or interest in marine environments, shipyard operations, or industrial trades. Interest in developing skills in welding, pipefitting, mechanical work, or related trades. Willingness to support work involving electrical systems, wiring, conduit, and industrial marine applications under supervision. Interest in working alongside sonar technicians, welders, fabricators, pipefitters, and mechanics to gain broad trade experience. No prior formal qualifications or certifications required. Work Environment The role is based in a shipyard and shop environment focused on marine and industrial work. You will work around marine vessels, industrial equipment, and fabrication areas, supporting a variety of trades. The work involves regular use of hand and power tools and exposure to typical shipyard conditions such as noise, outdoor elements, and active industrial operations. You must wear required personal protective equipment at all times, including a hard hat, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots. The environment emphasizes safety, teamwork, and adherence to procedures while providing exposure to a range of marine systems and trade disciplines. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Bremerton, WA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $24.00/hr.
