Job Description

This position is based at our Ready Roast location in Madera, CA. Job Summary This position is responsible for managing the day to day Food Safety and Quality programs as well as ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory and third party requirements in a tree nut processing plant in Madera, CA. This position will report to the Plant Manager. Essential Job Duties
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Calibrate laboratory test equipment. Schedule and execute sample submittals to external laboratory vendor for batch testing. Sample and analyze products produced in finish and raw. Provide independent oversight of processes, verifying compliance to company standards and policies, and effectively communicating when there are deviations from standards or processes. Maintain accurate and organized records of QA activities. Maintain organized inventory of retained products. Monitor HACCP critical control points. Participate in preparation for 3rd party safety audits. Maintain ongoing company compliance with all applicable regulations and 3rd party auditor requirements. Conduct research on Quality Assurance issues and deliver reports on research to management. Recommend, champion, and execute program enhancements. Works evenings and weekends as required. Review and enforce the Company's food safety, quality, and regulatory standards Knowledge and Skill Requirements Ability to communicate effectively and work well with others individually and in team setting. Strong leadership skills are essential. Excellent verbal and written skills. Good problem solving, analytical, & trouble shooting skills required. Ability to work in Microsoft Office efficiently (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Must have or must be capable of acquiring PCQI and SQF Practitioner certification within 6 months of hire. Education and Experience Minimum 1+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment, food industry preferred. Basic math and literacy. Basic computer operation skills Ability to understand and operate basic product testing equipment. High level of organizational skills, including written and verbal communication, creative problem solving, and commitment to company goals. Knowledge of food safety principles Ability to speak to groups. Identify improvements to food safety systems. Certificate in food science or related subject a plus Knowledge of GMP's. Basic understanding of HACCP principles. Familiarity with food safety systems. High school diploma or GED preferred. Direct Reporting
  • Currently one Assistant QA Manager and 9 Quality Technicians
  • Direct reporting to the Plant Manager with a dotted line to Director of Food Safety and Quality Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
The employee is required to stand, walk, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb to extended heights (inspection) or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee must be able to perform sensory, including taste, on items produced in the plant, which could include multiple allergens. Work Environment Typical plant setting for a food manufacturing plant. Periods of cold in winter, heat and humidity in summer. Dust and smoke/steam are common. Travel Required Minimal travel required. Must be willing to occasionally travel to corporate headquarters in Severn, NC or other plants for training, continuous improvement, or other initiatives.
