The Director of Quality is responsible for overseeing all aspects of quality assurance, quality control, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement within a fast-paced aerospace manufacturing environment. This role is a strategic leader who can build and mentor high-performing teams while also remaining hands-on within daily operations. This individual will partner closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Executive Leadership to ensure compliance with customer requirements, industry standards, and company objectives while supporting the company's continued growth.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

Leadership & Team Development Lead, mentor, and develop the Quality team including Quality Engineers, Inspectors, Auditors, and CMM personnel. Build a culture focused on accountability, continuous improvement, collaboration, and employee development. Provide coaching, performance management, succession planning, and career development opportunities for team members. Establish clear expectations, key performance indicators, and goals aligned with company objectives. Promote cross-functional teamwork and strong communication throughout the organization. Quality Management & Compliance Manage and maintain the company Quality Management System (QMS) in compliance with

AS9100, ISO

9001, Customer-specific aerospace requirements, and FAA and regulatory standards as applicable. Lead internal, external, customer, and registrar audits. Ensure effective implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA). Drive root cause analysis activities using tools such as 8D, 5 Why, Fishbone, PFMEA, and SPC. Oversee nonconformance management and material review processes. Ensure inspection and testing activities meet all customer and regulatory requirements. Strategic Quality Leadership Develop and execute long-term quality strategies that support company growth and operational objectives. Develop and analyze quality metrics and trends to identify opportunities for improvement and risk reduction. Partner with leadership to establish KPIs and quality performance goals. Support new product introductions, process validation, and continuous improvement initiatives. Drive initiatives that improve product quality, reduce scrap/rework, and enhance customer satisfaction. Participate in business planning and operational strategy discussions. Operational & Hands-On Responsibilities Maintain a visible presence on the manufacturing floor to support production and quality teams. Assist with resolving complex manufacturing and quality issues in real time. Review inspection data, customer complaints, first article inspections (FAIs), and concession requests. Support supplier quality initiatives and supplier corrective actions. Work directly with customers during audits, quality reviews, and issue resolution. Ensure calibration, inspection equipment, and CMM operations are properly maintained and compliant.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, or related field preferred. Minimum 7-10 years of progressive quality leadership experience within aerospace manufacturing. Strong working knowledge of

AS9100, ISO

9001, GD&T, Blueprint reading, Root cause analysis methodologies, and aerospace manufacturing processes. Experience leading audits and interfacing directly with aerospace customers. Proven ability to develop teams and lead organizational changes. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Excellent communication and leadership abilities. Hands-on leadership style with the ability to balance strategic initiatives and daily operational support.

Preferred:

ASQ certifications such as CQM, CQE, or CQA. Experience in precision machining, fabrication, or complex aerospace components. Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement experience. Familiarity with NADCAP requirements and customer-specific aerospace quality systems. Experience with CMM programming, inspection systems, and ERP/MRP systems. Familiarity with ITAR and CMMC compliance.

Skills and Abilities:

Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, mentor, and develop high-performing teams. Ability to effectively communicate with employees, customers, suppliers, and executive leadership. Advanced knowledge of aerospace quality systems, standards, and compliance requirements. Strong understanding of manufacturing processes including machining, fabrication, assembly, and inspection. Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T requirements. Proficient in root cause analysis and corrective action implementation. Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities. Ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Strong data analysis and reporting capabilities using quality metrics and KPIs. Ability to lead continuous improvement initiatives and drive operational excellence. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and quality/manufacturing software systems. Ability to work collaboratively across departments and build strong working relationships. Strong customer service mindset with the ability to professionally manage customer concerns and audits. Ability to remain hands-on and actively engaged on the manufacturing floor.

Travel & Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 25 lbs. regularly. Combination of office and manufacturing floor environment. Ability to regularly walk the production floor and interact directly with manufacturing teams. Occasional travel may be required for customer visits, supplier audits, and training.
