Renew Safety is seeking an experienced Solar Quality Control Manager for an immediate, several-month assignment supporting commercial rooftop solar projects throughout Illinois. This is a dedicated, field-based quality position. The selected candidate will initially perform inspections of completed solar installations and will transition to supporting active construction projects as the on-site Quality Control representative. We are looking for someone with strong solar construction, electrical, and field inspection experience who can independently identify installation deficiencies, document findings, communicate issues to construction teams, and verify corrective actions. This is not primarily an administrative quality position. The successful candidate must be comfortable working in the field and on commercial rooftops. Key Responsibilities Perform quality inspections of completed and active solar PV installations. Inspect solar modules, racking, attachments, electrical installations, grounding/bonding, cable management, conduit, equipment installation, and overall workmanship. Review construction drawings, electrical drawings, specifications, manufacturer requirements, and applicable project quality requirements. Identify defective, incomplete, or nonconforming work. Document inspection findings using a tablet and electronic reporting systems. Develop and maintain punch lists and quality inspection records. Support the issuance and tracking of nonconformance reports (NCRs) and corrective actions. Communicate quality deficiencies clearly and professionally to contractors, supervisors, and project management. Perform follow-up inspections to verify corrective actions have been properly completed. Maintain accurate and objective quality documentation. Serve as the dedicated on-site quality representative while construction activities are being performed. Work collaboratively with construction, electrical, safety, and project management personnel. Required Qualifications Previous solar PV construction and/or inspection experience. Demonstrated field quality control or inspection experience. Working knowledge of solar PV electrical and mechanical installations. Ability to read and interpret construction and electrical drawings. Formal quality control, inspection, or equivalent technical training. Experience documenting inspection findings, deficiencies, punch-list items, or nonconforming work. Ability to use tablets and electronic inspection/reporting systems. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently with limited supervision. Comfortable working outdoors and on commercial rooftops. Experience with fall-protection systems, including the proper inspection, fitting, and use of a full-body harness and associated equipment. Ability to comply with all project-specific safety requirements. Preferred Qualifications Candidates with any of the following will receive additional consideration: Commercial rooftop solar experience. Utility-scale or C&I solar quality experience. Solar QA/QC inspection experience. Electrical inspection or electrical trade experience. Experience with PV racking and module installation inspections. Experience inspecting grounding/bonding, DC wiring, cable management, conduit, terminations, and electrical equipment. NCR, CAPA, punch-list, or corrective-action management experience. Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) experience. NEC knowledge applicable to photovoltaic installations. OSHA 10 or OSHA 30. Current fall-protection training. NABCEP or other solar-related certifications. Work Environment This is an on-site field position. Work will primarily take place at commercial rooftop solar projects in Illinois. The position requires climbing and working at heights, using appropriate fall-protection equipment, walking active construction sites, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions. The Quality Control Manager is expected to be on site whenever assigned construction activities are being performed. What We're Looking For We are specifically looking for someone who understands how solar installations should be constructed and can recognize when the work does not meet project requirements. The ideal candidate can walk onto a solar project, review the drawings and specifications, inspect the installation, identify deficiencies, clearly document what is wrong, communicate the issue to the responsible contractor, and verify that the corrective work has been properly completed.
