As a Quality Control Supervisor, you'll lead the day-to-day activities of our Quality Control laboratory in Lenexa, Kansas. You'll oversee and develop a team of QC professionals, ensure products and testing activities meet established quality and regulatory requirements, and partner across functions to investigate issues and continuously improve laboratory performance. This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for someone who combines a strong microbiology laboratory background with people leadership, problem-solving, and a commitment to quality. About the Role The Quality Control Supervisor is responsible for the daily operations of the Quality Control laboratory, including product testing, product disposition, employee development, laboratory performance, and compliance with established procedures and applicable regulatory requirements. You'll lead a team of approximately 6-10 Quality Control employees and work closely with Quality, Manufacturing, Operations, and other cross-functional partners. The role will also support investigations, new product and process introductions, continuous improvement initiatives, and laboratory safety. This position is based in Lenexa, Kansas, and typically works Monday through Friday. Flexibility to work overtime and weekends when business needs require is essential. What You Will Do Lead the daily activities of the Quality Control laboratory, establishing priorities and assigning work to ensure testing and product disposition activities are completed effectively and on schedule. Manage, coach, train, and develop a team of approximately 6-10 Quality Control employees, including performance management and ongoing technical development. Ensure laboratory activities are performed in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures, FDA requirements, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and applicable quality standards. Develop, document, implement, and maintain Quality Control procedures and testing practices. Investigate out-of-limit and unexpected test results, deviations, and product failures, including root cause analysis, risk assessments, and corrective actions. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop testing plans for new products and update existing testing methods in alignment with applicable CLSI and USP guidelines. Ensure timely review and disposition of finished goods to support business and customer needs. Lead the integration of new products, equipment, testing methods, and processes into the laboratory. Apply continuous improvement and Lean principles to improve laboratory efficiency, quality, and performance. Develop and maintain visual management tools and key performance indicators to provide visibility to laboratory performance and critical priorities. Lead 5S and standard work initiatives to maintain an organized, efficient, and compliant laboratory environment. Support the Quality Control Manager by monitoring departmental expenses against budget. Communicate critical testing priorities, backorders, risks, and laboratory status through daily management processes. Promote a strong safety culture through routine Gemba walks, employee engagement, and proactive identification and resolution of laboratory safety concerns. Partner effectively across departments to resolve quality and testing issues and support broader site and business priorities. What You Will Bring Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences or a related scientific discipline, with Microbiology strongly preferred. Minimum of 5 years of microbiology laboratory experience. 2-5 years of supervisory or people-management experience, including direct responsibility for employees. Demonstrated experience leading and developing technical laboratory personnel. Strong understanding of laboratory testing practices, investigations, deviations, root cause analysis, and problem-solving. Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining strong attention to quality and detail. Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across departments. Strong organizational, analytical, critical-thinking, and decision-making skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability and willingness to work overtime and weekends when business needs require. Preferred Qualifications Experience working in an FDA-regulated medical device, diagnostic, or similarly regulated environment. Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), USP, and CLSI requirements. Experience with SAP. Experience working on cross-functional teams and supporting new product, equipment, or process introductions. Experience with Lean, continuous improvement, 5S, standard work, or visual management methodologies. Experience preparing project reports, tracking departmental metrics, and supporting budget management.
