Full Job Description Job Role:
QA/QC Manager Role Summary A QA/QC Manager runs the laboratory as well as works alongside the brewing team to ensure quality standards are followed. They will be responsible for overseeing testing, lab inventory, budgeting and supply ordering. Additionally they will report to the COO and will be required to conduct brewery audits and monthly reports on the brewery's overall health and status. Duties and ResponsibilitiesPlan o Manage lab's daily, weekly, monthly tasks according to brewery production schedule. o Develop training procedures for new and existing lab staff. o Add, implement, and develop new protocols for laboratory testing. o Develop and conduct a sensory panel including creation of off-flavor standards. Execute o Complete tasks in accordance with lab and company standard operating procedures and guidelines (SOP/SOG) o Facilitate creation/maintenance of Lab SOP/SOG o Analysis of in-process and packaged product o Analysis of product packaging o Ensure precise and accurate results through proper testing protocols Supervise o Communicate and evaluate quality control measures with the Head Brewer and production team o Regularly analyze and interpret laboratory testing results o Control budgeting for laboratory supplies in addition to monitoring their levels and reordering when appropriate RequirementsEducation o A BS degree in microbiology, chemistry, bio-chemistry or like-field o Knowledge of beer history, production, ingredients, and tasting Experience o 2+ years in the brewing industry, or comparable laboratories o Hands-on laboratory experience and knowledge of proper equipment use and general laboratory skills o Experience in a production brewing facility is a plus Skills o Passion to create great beer o Be able to interpret results from microbiological analysis, chemical analysis, sensory analysis, and other forms of testing. o Microbiological media prep, aseptic plating and isolation/identification of microorganisms o Ability to safely conduct laboratory tests which might utilize hazardous chemicals o Ability to solve problems (with or without a team) o Organization, planning, and execution o Computer programs: Microsoft Office Suite o Autonomy, situational awareness, safety awareness o Physical ability (stand, lift, work in harsh conditions, including movement of object weighing up to 175 pounds) Work Environment o Must be able to work on their feet for over eight hours at a time, work in extreme temperatures for extended periods of time, in loud production environments, with chemicals of varying composition, work from heights, as well as work in damp and wet areas.
