Job Description

Summary:
The Food Safety and Quality Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily food safety and quality operations to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, customer specifications, and GFSI-recognized food safety standards (SQF, BRCGS, or equivalent). This role provides direct supervision of quality technicians, supports production operations, and ensures that food safety, quality, and sanitation programs are effectively implemented throughout the facility.
Qualifications and Skills Educational Background Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in science related field, preferably Microbiology, Crop Science, Biology, Chemistry and Agricultural Business and/or Food Science OR 6 years comparable Quality Assurance work experience in a food plant manufacturing environment.
Certifications:
PCQI/HACCP
certification, Food Safety Manager certification (e.g., SQF, BRC, or ISO), or similar credentials is a plus.
Experience :
3-5 years of experience in a food safety or quality assurance role, preferably in a food manufacturing or processing environment. 1-2 years of supervisory experience preferred.
Technical Skills :
Knowledge of food safety regulations (e.g., FDA, USDA, FSMA), quality management systems, and auditing processes. Experience with audits (regulatory, customer, and third-party). Proficient in Microsoft office and quality management system.
Soft Skills :
Strong attention to detail, communication skills, ability to work cross-functionally, and problem-solving abilities.
Work Environment :
Ability to stand and walk production floors for extended periods. Ability to work in cold, wet, and noisy environments typical of produce facilities. Ability to lift up to 40 lbs as needed. Flexible schedule to support multiple shifts, weekends, or seasonal operations.
Job Responsibilities:
Food Safety & Quality Systems Implement, monitor, and enforce the facility's food safety and quality programs, including HACCP, GMPs, SSOPs, allergen control, environmental monitoring, and foreign material control. Ensure compliance with
FDA FSMA
Produce Safety Rule, Preventive Controls (as applicable), and customer requirements. Support maintenance and ongoing compliance with GFSI certification (SQF/BRCGS), including audit preparation, execution, and corrective actions. Verify that food safety plans, risk assessments, and prerequisite programs are effectively implemented. Operational Oversight Supervise daily QA/QC activities on the production floor, including pre-operational inspections, in-process monitoring, and finished product checks via Direct Observations of quality and food safety checks. Place product on hold and release product in accordance with company procedures. Review production and quality records for accuracy and completeness. Monitor sanitation effectiveness and verify cleaning and sanitation activities. Team Leadership & Training Supervise, train, and coach food safety and quality technicians. Ensure employees and contractors follow GMP, hygiene, and food safety requirements. Deliver food safety, GMP, and quality training to production and support staff. Promote a strong food safety culture across all shifts. Corrective Actions & Continuous Improvement Investigate food safety and quality deviations, customer complaints, and internal nonconformances. Lead root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA). Assist with internal audits, third-party audits, and regulatory inspections (FDA, MDH, etc.). Support continuous improvement initiatives related to food safety, quality, and operational efficiency. Environmental Monitoring & Verification Oversee environmental monitoring programs including sample collection, trending, and corrective actions. Verify calibration of food safety and quality monitoring equipment. Documentation & Records Maintain accurate food safety and quality records in accordance with regulatory and customer requirements. Support internal audits, traceability exercises, mock recalls, and management reviews. Cross-Functional Collaboration Work closely with Production, Sanitation, Maintenance, and Warehouse teams to ensure food safety risks are controlled. Communicate food safety and quality expectations clearly and effectively. Training Required Completion of all Orientation programs assigned by Human Resources. Completion of the QA Orientation Packet.
Condition of Employment:
The successful candidate will be requiring providing documentation demonstrating the right to work in the United States upon hire. The successful candidate must submit to post offer, pre-employment drug testing. The successful candidate will be subject to employment history checks.
