Job Description

Quality Control Director Pacific, MO 63069 Full-time Full-time Job Summary The Quality Control Director is responsible for establishing and leading the overall quality strategy for N.B. West Contracting's asphalt materials and construction operations. This role provides executive-level oversight of quality control programs across all asphalt plants and paving projects, ensuring consistent compliance with specifications, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations. The QC Director drives continuous improvement in materials, mix design innovation, testing protocols, and operational performance. This position partners closely with executive leadership, operations, plant teams, and external agencies to advance West Contracting's commitment to quality, safety, sustainability, and industry leadership.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1.
Strategic Leadership & Quality Program Oversight:
Develop, implement, and continuously improve the company-wide Quality Control strategy, standards, and policies. Provide leadership and direction to QC Managers and lab teams across all locations. Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and quality metrics to drive accountability and continuous improvement. Ensure alignment of quality initiatives with company goals, customer expectations, and industry best practices. 2.
Testing, Compliance, and Regulatory Oversight:
Ensure all testing programs meet or exceed MoDOT, and other regulatory standards. Oversee lab certifications, audit readiness, and compliance programs across all facilities. Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies, including MoDOT and local authorities. Monitor Quality Level Analysis (QLA) results and implement corrective actions as needed. 3.
Mix Design & Technical Excellence:
Provide executive oversight of asphalt mix design development, approval, and performance optimization. Champion innovation in Balanced Mix Design, sustainable materials, and long-life pavement solutions. Support troubleshooting of complex material or production issues across plants and projects. Lead collaboration with industry experts, researchers, and partners to advance technical capabilities. 4.
Operational & Financial Management:
Oversee the Quality Control department budget, staffing, and resource allocation. Partner with operations and plant leadership to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance production quality. Identify and implement process improvements to optimize plant performance and material consistency. 5.
Leadership & Team Development:
Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing QC team, including managers, technicians, and lab personnel. Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and professional development. Support succession planning and workforce development within the QC function. Promote collaboration between QC, operations, and project teams. 6.
Safety & Risk Management:
Champion and enforce West Contracting's Safety Program across all QC operations. Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and proactively address risks in lab and field environments. Support incident investigations and implement corrective actions as needed. 7.
Innovation, Sustainability, & Industry Leadership:
Lead the development and implementation of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) by collecting and analyzing plant and material data, coordinating life cycle assessments, and ensuring third-party verification to support project requirements and sustainability goals. Promote energy-efficient production methods and reduced mix temperatures. Represent West Contracting in industry organizations, committees, and technical forums. Stay ahead of emerging trends, technologies, and regulatory changes in asphalt materials and construction.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field required. Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred. 7+ years of progressive experience in asphalt materials, quality control, and mix design, including leadership roles. Extensive knowledge of asphalt and concrete specifications, including Superpave asphalt testing. Required certifications (or ability to obtain/maintain): Superpave
QC/QA, HMA
Aggregate, Bituminous Technician, Aggregate Technician, TSR, IRI Profile. Proven leadership experience managing multi-site teams and complex operations. Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities. Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills. High level of integrity, business ethics, and professionalism. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions The role involves both laboratory, asphalt plants, and field work. Exposure to construction sites and outdoor conditions. This includes working in temperature extremes due to weather conditions and operating equipment. Exposure to Dust. Must be able to stand, walk, and lift up to 50 lbs for extended periods as needed. All candidates agree to complete a selection assessment and pre-employment drug screen. Travel Requirements Regular travel between asphalt plants, job sites, and corporate locations. Occasional regional or national travel for industry engagement and training.
