Full-Time Department:
Engineering & Manufacturing Operations About
ORIGIN ORIGIN
is a growing engineering and industrial manufacturing organization specializing in custom metal fabrication, structural steel assemblies, precision manufacturing, and engineered solutions for the telecommunications, energy, data center, and industrial markets. With engineering and manufacturing operations in Colorado and New Mexico, ORIGIN is focused on developing highly capable, technology-driven manufacturing facilities that combine engineering expertise, advanced equipment, disciplined production processes, and exceptional quality. We are seeking an experienced, hands-on manufacturing engineering professional to help lead the next phase of growth at our Clovis, New Mexico facility. Position Overview The Senior Manufacturing Engineer / Engineering & Quality Manager will play a critical role in developing the engineering, manufacturing, and quality systems at ORIGIN's Clovis fabrication facility. This is a unique opportunity for an individual who enjoys both technical engineering and operational leadership. The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing a robust quality management program, improving manufacturing processes through Design for Manufacturability (DFM), supporting CNC equipment programming and production, and helping build the operational infrastructure necessary to scale the facility. A central objective of this position is to help replicate the engineering capabilities, manufacturing processes, quality standards, and operational discipline established at ORIGIN Engineering's Colorado operations. We are looking for a builder, problem-solver, and leader—not simply someone to maintain existing processes. Key Responsibilities 1. Quality Management & Systems Development Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive manufacturing quality management system. Establish standardized quality control procedures, inspection requirements, and documentation. Develop first-article inspection (FAI), in-process inspection, and final inspection processes. Implement nonconformance reporting, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) procedures. Develop quality checkpoints throughout the manufacturing process, from incoming material through final shipment. Establish welding inspection, dimensional verification, and fabrication quality standards. Support the development of quality metrics, traceability procedures, and continuous improvement initiatives. Work toward ISO 9001-aligned processes and potential future certification. Build a culture of accountability, workmanship, and continuous improvement throughout the facility. 2. Manufacturing Engineering & DFM Review customer drawings, engineering specifications, and fabrication requirements to identify opportunities for improved manufacturability. Apply Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles to reduce production costs, improve throughput, and eliminate unnecessary complexity. Develop manufacturing plans, process flows, work instructions, and production documentation. Collaborate with the Colorado engineering team to resolve design and manufacturing challenges. Improve fabrication processes involving laser cutting, forming, welding, machining, and assembly. Develop fixtures, jigs, tooling, and other manufacturing aids to improve repeatability and efficiency. Evaluate production bottlenecks and implement practical solutions to improve capacity and reduce rework. Support prototype development, first-article builds, and the transition of new products into production. 3. Equipment Programming & Technical Support Provide hands-on engineering and programming support for CNC manufacturing equipment. Support programming, setup optimization, and troubleshooting of equipment such as: CNC fiber laser cutting systems CNC press brakes CNC machining equipment Robotic welding systems Other automated fabrication equipment Develop and optimize cutting programs, nesting strategies, forming sequences, and manufacturing workflows. Improve equipment utilization, material yield, cycle times, and production efficiency. Work directly with operators and production personnel to resolve manufacturing challenges. Develop standardized programming practices and support operator training. Assist in evaluating new manufacturing equipment, automation opportunities, and capital improvements. 4. Engineering Leadership & Facility Development Serve as the primary on-site engineering resource for the Clovis manufacturing operation. Help establish the technical and operational foundation required to develop Clovis into a self-sufficient, high-performing manufacturing facility. Standardize engineering workflows, manufacturing documentation, quality practices, and production processes between Colorado and New Mexico. Provide technical direction and mentorship to production personnel, programmers, quality inspectors, and other team members. Identify staffing, training, equipment, and process needs required to support future growth. Work closely with executive leadership to implement strategic manufacturing initiatives. Support the development of an organizational structure capable of scaling with increasing production demand. Foster a culture of technical excellence, ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline; equivalent substantial manufacturing experience may be considered. Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in manufacturing engineering, metal fabrication, or industrial manufacturing. Strong understanding of metal fabrication processes, including cutting, forming, welding, machining, and assembly. Demonstrated experience developing or improving manufacturing quality systems. Working knowledge of CAD/CAM software and CNC manufacturing processes. Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and manufacturing specifications. Experience with root cause analysis, corrective actions, and continuous improvement. Strong problem-solving abilities with a willingness to work directly on the manufacturing floor. Ability to work independently, prioritize competing demands, and take ownership of projects. Strong communication and leadership skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience implementing
ISO 9001
quality management systems. Experience with AWS welding standards and fabrication inspection requirements. Familiarity with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or comparable CAD platforms. Experience with CNC laser programming, press brake programming, and nesting software. Experience with ERP/MRP systems and manufacturing documentation control. Experience developing fixtures, tooling, and production automation. Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar continuous improvement experience. Prior experience helping establish or scale a manufacturing operation. Previous supervisory or technical team leadership experience. What Success Looks Like First 90 Days Evaluate existing manufacturing processes, equipment capabilities, and quality procedures. Identify critical quality and production gaps. Establish a prioritized improvement roadmap. Begin implementing standardized inspection procedures and manufacturing documentation. Develop working relationships with the Colorado engineering team and Clovis production personnel. First 6 Months Implement core quality management procedures and inspection processes. Establish consistent DFM reviews and manufacturing engineering support. Improve equipment programming efficiency and production workflows. Reduce recurring manufacturing defects and rework. Establish measurable manufacturing and quality performance indicators. First 12 Months Develop a functioning, documented quality management system. Establish repeatable engineering and manufacturing processes aligned with Colorado operations. Improve production throughput, quality consistency, and equipment utilization. Develop technical capabilities and training within the Clovis team. Help establish the foundation for a scalable, increasingly self-sufficient manufacturing operation. The Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is someone who thrives in a growing manufacturing environment and enjoys creating structure where it does not yet exist. This individual is equally comfortable reviewing engineering drawings, programming fabrication equipment, troubleshooting problems on the shop floor, developing quality procedures, and presenting operational improvements to executive leadership. We value practical manufacturing knowledge, initiative, leadership, and the ability to turn engineering concepts into repeatable production processes. This position offers the opportunity to play a significant role in building and shaping the future of ORIGIN's New Mexico manufacturing operations.
