We compete on craftsmanship, on-time delivery, and a reputation for parts that pass inspection the first time. As we grow, we are investing in our quality program and looking for a hands-on leader to own it. The Role We are hiring a Quality Control Manager to lead quality assurance and inspection across our fabrication and welding operations. You will own the quality system from incoming material through final inspection, partner closely with the shop floor, and be the person who makes sure every job leaving our doors meets spec, code, and customer requirements. This is a working leadership role: part program-builder, part inspector, part coach. What You'll Do
- Own and continuously improve the quality management system across fabrication, welding, and finishing.
- Perform and oversee in-process and final inspections of fabricated and welded assemblies against drawings, specifications, and applicable codes.
- Review and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, GD&T, and customer specifications to set clear acceptance criteria.
- Maintain weld quality oversight — verify WPS/PQR compliance, welder qualifications, and visual weld acceptance per
AWS D1.1.
- Manage incoming material inspection, including review of mill test reports (MTRs) and material certifications.
- Operate and calibrate inspection equipment (calipers, micrometers, gauges) and maintain the calibration program.
- Lead nonconformance management: document NCRs, drive root-cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Track and report quality metrics (first-pass yield, scrap, rework, defect trends) and present them to leadership.
- Prepare and maintain inspection records, certifications, and documentation packages for customer and third-party audits.
- Coordinate with NDT vendors and certified weld inspectors when third-party testing is required.
- Train and mentor shop personnel on quality standards, inspection methods, and a culture of doing it right the first time.
- Support customer quality communications, including responding to complaints and returns. What You Bring
- 3-5 years of quality control experience in metal fabrication, welding, machining, or a related manufacturing environment.
- Solid ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, weld symbols, and GD&T.
- Working knowledge of welding processes (MIG, TIG, stick) and visual weld inspection standards (AWS D1.1).
- Hands-on experience with precision measuring instruments and inspection techniques.
- Familiarity with quality systems and standards such as
ISO 9001
; experience with audits and documentation.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a structured approach to root-cause analysis (5-Why, fishbone, CAPA).
- Clear written and verbal communication — able to work with the shop floor, engineering, and customers.
- Comfortable in a working shop environment and able to move between the office and the floor throughout the day.
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Nice to Have
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) credential.
- ASQ certification (CQT, CQE, or CQM/OE) or equivalent.
- Associate or bachelor's degree in welding technology, manufacturing, engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with NDT methods (VT, PT, MT, UT) and coordinating third-party testing.
- Knowledge of ASME and structural steel (AISC) requirements.
- Experience implementing or maintaining ERP/quality tracking software.
- Prior experience supervising or mentoring a quality or inspection team.
