V.S Virkler & Son, Inc. is seeking a motivated, organized, and hands-on Assistant
EHS / QC
Director to support our environmental, health, safety, and quality control efforts across our concrete and aggregate operations. This role will work closely with the current EHS/QC leadership team and other departments, including operations, dispatch, plant personnel, and management, to help maintain compliance, improve processes, and support day-to-day field and plant needs. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to grow into a leadership role and eventually help oversee company-wide EHS and QC programs.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with implementation and oversight of company safety, environmental, and quality control programs Support compliance with OSHA, MSHA, DOT, DEC, and other applicable federal, state, and local regulations Conduct site visits, inspections, audits, and safety observations at plants, pits, and job sites Assist with incident investigations, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and follow-up documentation Help develop, update, and enforce company safety policies, procedures, and training programs Coordinate and maintain safety records, training logs, inspection reports, and compliance documentation Support quality control testing, reporting, and documentation for concrete and aggregate products Work with plant managers, dispatch, operations, and other leadership to address operational issues and maintain product quality standards Assist with employee onboarding, safety orientations, toolbox talks, and ongoing training Help prepare for agency inspections, customer audits, and internal reviews Promote a strong culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement Serve as a resource to management and field personnel on EHS and QC matters Long term- a strong understanding of all aspects of the company, with the ability to provide support to multiple departments if needed
Qualifications:
Experience in construction materials, concrete, aggregates, heavy civil, manufacturing, or related industry preferred Knowledge of EHS, safety compliance, and/or quality control processes Familiarity with OSHA, MSHA, DOT, and environmental compliance requirements strongly preferred Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Ability to communicate effectively with field employees, plant personnel, dispatch, and management Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel Valid driver's license and ability to travel between company locations as needed
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience in concrete or aggregate quality control Experience with safety training, inspections, incident reporting, and regulatory compliance
OSHA/MSHA
certifications are a plus Supervisory or leadership experience is a plus Physical /
Work Environment:
Combination of office, plant, field, and job site environments Must be able to walk uneven ground, climb stairs/ladders as needed, and work in varying weather conditions Occasional lifting, bending, and extended periods of standing or walking may be required
