A Quality Control Manager focuses on detection of mistakes and defects in manufacturing products. Develops procedures and tests to identify any irregularities and error in the output. Manages and oversees all steps related to quality control as part of the quality management strategy of a company. May involve leadership of a team of quality control technicians and other associated staff members.
Summary/Objective The quality manager position develops, implements and manages Quality Management System (QMS) designed to ensure continuous application of high performance coatings consistent with established standards (ISO 9001/2015 and AS9100/D and NADCAP), customer specifications and production goals. In addition this position supervises a team of quality control inspectors. Essential Functions Ensure a high level of internal and external customer service. Investigate (and correct) customer issues and complaints relating to quality utilizing the QMS software. Supervise workers engaged in inspection and testing activities to ensure high productivity and high technical integrity. Develop and analyze product specifications to determine standards and to establish quality and reliability expectancy of finished products. Provide technical expertise to teams. Strong knowledge of calibration and ability to read blue prints/CAD drawings. Ensure all QMS support activities (record keeping, internal audits, quality objectives, etc.) are completed and documented in accordance with ISO9001/2015, AS9100/D and NADCAP. Formulate, document and maintain quality control standards and on-going quality control objectives. Ensure document control procedure is adopted to review, approve, and update all changes to critical documents within the scope of the QMS. Support customer and certification authority audits of the QMS. Create, document and implement inspection criteria and procedures. Interpret quality control philosophy to key personnel within company. Provide, and oversee, inspection activity for product throughout production cycle. Interact with vendors to ensure quality of all purchased parts. Maintain active role on internal continuous improvement teams. Design, develop and implement quality control training programs. Qualifications and Skills 1. B.S. degree or equivalent experience/education combination. Minimum of 3 years of related experience in an ISO 9001/AS9100 or NADCAP certified facility. Supervisory/management experience. Proficiency with MS Office and/or ERP systems (Shoptec E2) Intermediate computer skills Ability to work in an industrial environment with proper personal protective equipment including a respirator. Proficiency with precision measuring tools. Intermediate mathematical skills. Organizational skills. Ability to lead a team. Supervisory Responsibility This position manages all employees of the department and is responsible for the performance management and hiring of the employees within that department. Physical Demands and Working Conditions The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While on the shop floor, there is intermittent exposure to noise, grease, dust, oil, grime, and chemicals and there is frequent exposure to extreme temperatures. Working around moving equipment requires caution as well as use of safety apparel. The employee must frequently lift and move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust. Work requires frequent use of large motor skills, standing for long periods, use of hand to finger, handle or feel and frequent walking, kneeling, bending, crouching, twisting, and turning. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position. Days of work are Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week. Travel Travel is infrequent, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required.
