You will use a variety of inspection tools and software to verify dimensions, interpret detailed engineering drawings, and support continuous improvement initiatives in a short-run, large-part machine shop. Responsibilities Perform mechanical inspections on aerospace components with at least 3 years of solid experience in aerospace mechanical inspection. Use inspection equipment such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and vision systems/comparators to verify part dimensions and features. Inspect large parts while maintaining very tight tolerances and ensuring all measurements meet engineering and customer specifications. Read and interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, work instructions, and procedures to determine inspection requirements. Apply geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) principles to evaluate part conformance and document inspection results. Utilize an ERP system, preferably ABAS, to record inspection data, track work orders, and maintain accurate quality records. Communicate effectively with manufacturing engineering, inspection personnel, and shop floor employees to resolve quality issues and clarify requirements. Support compliance with AS9100 and aerospace industry quality requirements in all inspection activities. Contribute to Kaizen, 5S, Continuous Improvement, and Lean Enterprise practices to enhance quality, efficiency, and process reliability. Collaborate with team members to identify nonconformances, assist in root cause analysis, and support corrective and preventive actions. Use computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, to prepare reports, maintain documentation, and manage communication. When applicable, support or perform inspections using CMM equipment and related software, including CALYPSO and Gear Pro where used. Essential Skills At least 3 years of solid mechanical inspection experience in the aerospace industry. Proficiency in using inspection equipment such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and vision systems/comparators. Hands-on experience with aerospace quality inspection practices and AS9100 requirements. Ability to read and understand complex engineering drawings, blueprints, work instructions, and procedures. Strong understanding and practical application of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T). Ability to work with large parts while maintaining very tight tolerances. Good computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Experience using an ERP system, with preference for ABAS. Excellent communication and teamwork skills to effectively collaborate with engineering, inspection, and shop floor personnel. Experience in quality control and quality assurance within an aerospace manufacturing environment. Experience with CMM-based inspection in a production or quality assurance setting. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with CALYPSO and Gear Pro software is preferred but not required. Background in Kaizen, 5S, Continuous Improvement, and Lean Enterprise practices. Exposure to short-run production environments and large-part machining operations. Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to inspection and documentation. Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a production environment while maintaining high quality standards. Why Work Here? You will join a quality-focused aerospace manufacturer that values precision, collaboration, and continuous improvement. The environment encourages active participation in Lean and Continuous Improvement initiatives, giving you the opportunity to influence processes and enhance quality outcomes. You will work alongside experienced professionals, gain exposure to advanced inspection tools and methodologies, and develop your expertise in aerospace quality standards. The organization promotes teamwork, clear communication, and a supportive culture where your technical skills and ideas are recognized and appreciated. Work Environment The role is based in a large-part machine shop focused on short-run production for the aerospace industry. You will work around heavy machinery and large components, using precision inspection tools and, where applicable, CMM equipment with software such as CALYPSO and Gear Pro.
