SUMMARY:
Under the guidance of more senior Mechanical Inspectors or Quality Control Supervisor, inspects dimensional mechanical or electromechanical piece parts, subassembly or final assembly products in such areas as final inspection, precision assembly, in-process and shipping and receiving.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Inspect mechanical and electromechanical parts, piece parts, subassemblies, and assemblies for workmanship and conformance to engineering standards and production specifications. Use precision measuring tools, coordinate measuring machines, and electronic instruments and perform inspections in accordance with authorized specifications and quality control standards. With assistance if needed, set up and operate test equipment utilizing hydraulic and air gages, electrical devices, and other types of gages and testing equipment necessary for inspection. Stamp or approve acceptable work or prepare paperwork as required for rework or rejection. Note deviations from specification, purchase orders, dimensions, finishes, material or quality. Ensures the history of the inspection process is kept up to date by properly maintaining the inspection records and history on fabricated and purchased parts. Keeps nonconforming parts from being kept in stock by purging stock when it has been determined that it is questionable and reinspection is required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of shop math in order to perform calculations for the inspection of parts. Possess basic knowledge of inspection methods and gauges used in mechanical inspection to verify conformance of purchased or manufactured product to print specifications. Basic understanding of the use of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing based upon
ANSI Y14.5M
practices. EDUCATION and/or
EXPERIENCE
Two year certificate from college or technical school; with a minimum of one (1) year of related experience and/or training; or a High School diploma or GED Certificate and a minimum of three (3) years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
bility to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
