This position is responsible for ensuring fabricated steel meets approved shop drawings, project specifications, applicable codes, and our internal quality standards before material leaves our facility. We are looking for someone who is detail-oriented, comfortable working directly on the shop floor, and willing to take ownership of quality throughout the fabrication process—not simply at final inspection. Responsibilities Perform dimensional and visual inspections of structural steel and miscellaneous metal fabrication. Verify fabricated members against approved shop drawings, including dimensions, hole locations, connections, plates, angles, stiffeners, and other components. Inspect welds for visual compliance with project requirements and applicable welding standards. Confirm correct material sizes, grades, and components are being used during fabrication. Review shop drawings and understand structural steel details, weld symbols, dimensions, and fabrication requirements. Identify nonconforming work and communicate required corrections to shop supervisors, welders, fitters, project managers, and detailing personnel. Perform inspections throughout fabrication rather than relying solely on final inspection. Verify completed assemblies prior to coating, galvanizing, shipment, or installation. Maintain inspection records, QC documentation, and nonconformance reports when required. Assist with material traceability and review of mill test reports and welding documentation when applicable. Verify workmanship including fit-up, weld size and location, member orientation, bolt-hole locations, and overall dimensional accuracy. Help prevent fabrication errors, rework, and field issues by identifying problems before material leaves the shop. Coordinate with management and production personnel to continuously improve fabrication quality and shop processes. Maintain a clean, organized, and professional QC work area. Follow all company safety policies and procedures. Qualifications Previous experience in structural steel fabrication, welding inspection, steel detailing, fitting, or quality control strongly preferred. Ability to read and interpret structural steel shop drawings. Understanding of welding symbols and common structural steel connections. Knowledge of structural steel fabrication practices and tolerances. Ability to accurately use tape measures, squares, levels, calipers, weld gauges, and other inspection tools. Strong attention to detail and ability to recognize fabrication discrepancies. Comfortable communicating quality issues directly and professionally with shop personnel. Ability to document findings clearly and accurately. Must be dependable, organized, and able to work independently.
