The Mechanical Inspector is responsible for ensuring that raw materials, machined components, and finished products meet exact design specifications and quality standards. This position plays a critical role in maintaining product quality by conducting detailed inspections, interpreting engineering drawings, and utilizing precision measuring equipment to identify and prevent defects before products reach customers. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in metal fabrication, CNC machining, or manufacturing quality control and possess a thorough understanding of blueprint reading, GD&T, and inspection methodologies. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesQuality Assurance & Testing Perform first-article, in-process, and final inspections of metal parts and assemblies. Utilize precision measuring instruments including micrometers, calipers, height gauges, indicators, and Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) equipment. Verify compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements. Conduct dimensional, welding, and structural integrity inspections to ensure product conformity. Identify, document, and communicate quality issues and inspection findings. Blueprint Interpretation Read, analyze, and interpret complex manufacturing drawings, engineering specifications, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) requirements. Verify dimensions, tolerances, and critical characteristics against established standards. Collaborate with production and engineering teams to resolve drawing or specification discrepancies. Material Evaluation Inspect incoming raw materials for dimensional accuracy, surface defects, cracks, corrosion, and material condition. Evaluate machined components, fabricated assemblies, and finished products for compliance with quality requirements. Verify weld quality and structural integrity in accordance with applicable standards and specifications. Documentation & Reporting Accurately record inspection results on route sheets, travelers, inspection reports, and electronic databases. Generate and maintain nonconformance reports (NCRs) for defective or rejected materials and products. Assist with corrective action investigations and quality improvement initiatives. Maintain inspection records in accordance with company and customer requirements. QualificationsEducation High School Diploma or GED required. Vocational training, technical certifications, or coursework in manufacturing, machining, quality control, or a related field preferred. Experience Minimum of 5 years of experience in quality inspection, metal fabrication, CNC machining, or manufacturing quality control. Experience working in a precision manufacturing environment preferred. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong understanding of blueprint reading and GD&T. Proficiency with precision measuring instruments and inspection equipment. Experience using CMM equipment is preferred. Knowledge of welding inspection practices and fabrication processes. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality standards. Ability to identify defects, troubleshoot quality issues, and recommend corrective actions. Proficient in inspection documentation and recordkeeping. Effective communication and teamwork skills. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform inspections throughout the workday. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally. Visual acuity required for detailed inspections and measurement verification.
