Bilingual English/Spanish Required Position Summary Collier Recycling Services is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented, and customer-focused Part-Time Bilingual Scale Operator to assist with daily scale-house operations at our Naples recycling facility. The Scale Operator is responsible for weighing incoming and outgoing vehicles, accurately entering transaction information, identifying material types, processing customer payments, issuing scale tickets and receipts, and providing excellent customer service. This is a customer-facing position requiring frequent communication with contractors, landscapers, commercial drivers, residential customers, and employees. The successful candidate must be able to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish. The ideal candidate is dependable, comfortable using computers, accurate with numbers and cash transactions, and able to remain organized and professional in a busy recycling facility. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Scale Operations Operate the truck scale for incoming and outgoing vehicles. Accurately record vehicle weights, customer information, material types, and transaction details. Obtain and record inbound and outbound weights as required. Generate accurate scale tickets and customer receipts. Verify customer, vehicle, and transaction information before completing each transaction. Maintain accurate daily records of scale activity. Identify unusual weight discrepancies or transaction issues and notify management when necessary. Follow established procedures for corrections, voids, reweighs, and other transaction adjustments. Help maintain an efficient and orderly flow of vehicles through the scale area. Customer Service Greet and assist customers and drivers in a professional and courteous manner. Communicate effectively with customers in both English and Spanish. Explain scale procedures, facility rules, pricing, payment requirements, and basic material guidelines. Direct customers and drivers to the appropriate unloading, loading, or processing areas. Answer telephone calls and assist with general customer inquiries as needed. Assist contractors, landscapers, commercial drivers, and residential customers with basic questions. Handle customer concerns professionally and refer disputes or unusual situations to management. Maintain a helpful and professional attitude, particularly during busy periods. Payment Processing Collect and process customer payments accurately. Handle cash, credit/debit card, and authorized account transactions in accordance with company procedures. Issue receipts and maintain appropriate transaction documentation. Maintain an accurate cash drawer. Report cash or transaction discrepancies immediately. Assist with end-of-shift cash and transaction reconciliation as required. Follow established procedures for customer accounts and authorized charge transactions. Material & Load Verification Ask customers to identify the material being delivered or picked up. Accurately enter the appropriate material classification into the scale system. Become familiar with materials accepted by Collier Recycling Services. Recognize questionable, prohibited, or potentially misclassified loads and contact a supervisor or yard personnel before allowing unloading. Communicate with equipment operators and yard personnel when load verification is necessary. Direct customers to the appropriate area based on material type. Follow company procedures for horticultural waste, construction and demolition debris, recycled materials, topsoil, mulch, aggregate, and other materials handled by the facility. Administrative Duties Maintain accurate and organized scale tickets, receipts, customer records, and supporting documentation. Perform accurate and timely data entry. Assist with filing, scanning, and organizing scale-house records. Communicate transaction discrepancies and customer account issues to management or accounting personnel. Assist with daily transaction summaries and basic reports as requested. Answer phones and provide general administrative support when needed. Keep the scale house and work area clean, organized, and professional. Safety Responsibilities Follow all company safety policies and facility procedures. Maintain awareness of trucks, trailers, customer vehicles, and heavy equipment operating around the scale area. Provide clear instructions to drivers to help maintain safe and orderly traffic flow. Immediately report unsafe conditions, accidents, spills, damaged equipment, or other safety concerns to management. Do not authorize questionable or prohibited materials to be unloaded without management approval. Follow established procedures for customers and visitors entering the facility. Qualifications High school diploma or GED preferred. Bilingual English/Spanish required. Must be able to speak and understand both English and Spanish well enough to communicate effectively with customers, drivers, contractors, and employees. Previous customer service, cashier, scale-house, recycling, waste-management, trucking, construction-materials, or similar experience preferred. Previous cash-handling experience preferred. Basic computer and data-entry skills required. Experience with truck-scale software, point-of-sale systems, or similar business software is a plus. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong verbal communication skills in English and Spanish . Excellent customer-service skills. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Basic math and computer skills. Ability to accurately enter numbers, weights, customer information, and material classifications. Ability to handle cash and payment transactions accurately. Ability to communicate clearly with customers, drivers, equipment operators, and management. Ability to remain professional when dealing with difficult or frustrated customers. Ability to learn material classifications, pricing, facility procedures, and recycling requirements. Ability to follow established procedures consistently. Ability to work efficiently during periods of heavy vehicle traffic. Ability to multitask without sacrificing accuracy. Dependable and punctual. Ability to work independently with limited supervision. Strong work ethic and willingness to assist the team as needed. Physical and Work Environment Requirements This position is primarily based in the scale house at an active recycling facility. The employee may be exposed to outdoor temperatures, dust, dirt, noise, odors, truck traffic, and heavy equipment associated with recycling and construction-material operations. The position requires the ability to: Sit or stand for extended periods. Frequently use a computer, telephone, printer, and scale equipment. Communicate clearly with customers in both English and Spanish. Occasionally walk outside the scale house as required. Work safely around trucks and heavy equipment. Perform repetitive computer and data-entry tasks. Maintain concentration and accuracy in a busy work environment. Work Schedule This is a part-time position . Workdays and hours will be scheduled based on operational needs. Candidates must be dependable, punctual, and available to work their assigned schedule. Saturday availability may be required. Compensation:
Based on experience. Collier Recycling Services is committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and professional workplace.
Pay:
$17.00 - $20.00 per hour
