M-F, 7:00 AM-3:30 PM Eastern Time Position Summary The Machine Inspection Team Lead is responsible for leading a team to perform detailed inspections, assessments, and evaluations of heavy construction machinery to ensure safety, quality, performance, regulatory compliance, and readiness for operation. This role identifies mechanical issues, documents equipment conditions, and adding customer required decals, track units, and reports back to customers where needed. The Machine Inspection Team Lead will be accountable for achieving targets and delivering quality work as a key competitive advantage to Aertssen Logistics. The Team lead is expected to lead teams in both of our warehouses. The assistant team leads of PDI and quality will report to Machine Inspection team lead. Duties and Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive inspections on construction equipment such as excavators, loaders, bulldozers, graders, forklifts, cranes, and skid steers at inbound, outbound, PDI, Quality Checks and during recurrent checks. Perform evaluations of the condition of critical components including engines, hydraulics, transmissions, electrical systems, undercarriages, and structural elements, and coach team members to perform evaluations in a high pace, high quality environment. Set challenging targets for each team members, and monitor performance, address and correct issues where needed. Verify equipment functions according to manufacturer specifications and safety standards. Perform pre-delivery and scheduled periodic inspections. Ensure all inspections align with OSHA, MSHA, DOT, and industry safety regulations. Identify hazards or non-compliant conditions and recommend corrective actions. Support internal safety initiatives by reporting risks and educating operators on safe practices. Prepare detailed inspection reports, including findings, photos, measurements, and recommendations. Document mechanical deficiencies, wear indicators, Hydraulic leaks and electrical issues through our internal inspection report. Perform functional tests on machinery including engine performance, hydraulic response, brake function, and electronic functions. Operate equipment safely to verify performance and identify operational concerns. Enforce company policies, procedures, productivity standards, attendance standards, and safety rules consistently and fairly. Responsible for interviewing and selecting qualified candidates, making hiring decisions, and addressing employee performance or conduct issues up to and including termination, while ensuring fairness, consistency, and compliance with company policies and employment laws. Support onboarding and training by ensuring employees complete required safety, equipment, and job-specific training. Review and take action on PTO/floating holiday requests within 24 hours. Review, verify, and approve employee timecards for accuracy and compliance with company payroll policies and applicable wage and hour laws. Document performance, conduct, and attendance issues and participate in corrective action. processes in partnership with management and HR. Promote and maintain a safe, respectful, and productive work environment. Communicate performance expectations, operational changes, and policy updates to employees. Qualifications Strong mechanical knowledge of construction machinery. 2 years of experience required in checking and testing equipment 2-5 years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance, mechanical inspection, or related field. Proficiency with inspection tools (calipers, torque wrenches). Leadership capabilities and experience guiding small operational teams. Strong communication and organizational skills. Able to perform physical tasks and provide hands-on assistance when necessary. Comfortable working under time pressure while maintaining quality standards. Strong attention to detail and safety focus. Ability to operate various types of heavy equipment. 5 years proven experience leading a team. Ability to lift, push, or pull objects up to 50 lbs. and perform physical tasks safely as required. Must be okay with working in small, confined spaces. Ability to climb up, under, around, and over large equipment, and work at heights of up to 30 feet. A current, valid driver's license and insurable driving record is required.
