Job Description

Minimum Requirements High school graduate or GED equivalent. Valid Hawaii State driver's license. Maintain proper certifications, licensure and acceptable driving record (where applicable) Able to operate testing machines and equipment. High ethical and moral standards. Duties and Responsibilities Obtain samples and perform necessary tests on various concrete and aggregate products. Compares results against job specifications. Provides advice on remedial action if materials do not meet specifications. Visually inspects aggregate, sand, and other materials being produced or stored at mills, plants or quarries to ascertain quality. Assist in preparing concrete mix designs, preparing trial batches and aggregate submittals. Assist mixer drivers in determining quality and consistency of concrete. Make adjustments on materials and check batching and mixing of concrete. Advise production supervisors as to the quality of concrete aggregate manufactured at the respective quarries. Prepares samples of products for customers and testing laboratories and may deliver to assure safe arrival. Prepares mix designs and batch plant cards for the concrete division. Conduct tests related to checking concrete yields on the batch plant. Adjusts the batch plant weights to compensate for changes in material moisture content and specific gravity. Makes concrete test cylinders and conducts tests to measure strength of concrete. Records and maintains test data and other required information. This includes both written records and data input into a personal computer. Performs necessary housekeeping functions in laboratory area. Performs daily maintenance on lab and test equipment. Performs duties in an approved and safe manner. Any additional tasks and responsibilities that may be assigned. Always work safely and take action to prevent any and all unsafe actions, processes, and behaviors. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Works in varying environments from air-conditioned offices, to hot, dusty, muddy field conditions. Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Must be able to climb ladders and stairs, and withstand heights. Must be able to lift and carry materials to be tested weighing up to 60 pounds. Must possess a valid Hawaii State Driver's License and be able to drive an automobile or pick-up truck. Must be able to use a wheelbarrow, loaded with up to three cubic feet (approximately 450 pounds) of ready-mix concrete. Operates concrete testing equipment and other office equipment Must be able to work overtime and on weekends, as required. Must be able to meet tight project deadlines while maintaining quality results in their work. Competency in the use of personal computer, various software programs and other office equipment.
