Blue Island, Illinois, United States Job Description Basic Function:
Responsible for ensuring that all foundry aluminum and magnesium castings meet quality control requirements prior to shipping. Incumbent will assist in the electronic and mechanical gage calibration process and assist quality team in resolving quality issues. Must learn to effectively utilize database systems to record monitor quality findings. Must be able to read/interpret engineering drawings and blueprints, perform dimensional checks, and visual inspections for overall quality and craftsmanship. Position necessitates communication with a wide variety of foundry individuals and the Quality Team. Must understand how to use measuring devices and have knowledge of quality processes and acceptable quality standards. Prepare Inspection plans and enter in database.
Responsibilities:
Accurate scanning in and out on jobs and the proper reporting of processed quantities. Wear proper safety equipment; keep work area clean and safe at all times. Understand customer requirements, our companies internal scrap challenges, rework, customer returns, the impact they have on your job and demonstrate ability to deliver quality & efficient workmanship. Review & inspect all material being used, building self-inspection into everything you make/process Complete, date and sign-off/scan all routing information Perform job tasks in an efficient manner according to given standards Assist Quality Team and MRB through input of daily scrap entries, weekly monitoring of system NC's, PA's, CPA's and creation of MRB rework tickets as needed. Determine inspection procedure to ensure complete verification of specifications and dimensions. Obtain necessary fixtures, gauges, and indicators to check castings for compliance with specifications. Ensure conformance to specifications Read blueprints or engineering specifications to obtain casting information such as specified material, surface finish, and dimension requirements; ability to compare surface finish of work piece to finish requirements Assist Quality in data control, documentation, updates of procedures and work instructions and resolving quality issues utilizing continuous improvement techniques to solve quality problems. Pass validated inspection assessment if required. Must be responsible for control of quality acceptance stamps and proper placement procedures. Inspector must be capable of working in at least one inspection area with all testing requirements complete. Assist all inspectors to maintain FIFO of castings through the plant. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or manager of the department.
Skills:
Candidate must work independently with minimal direction and take responsibility for implementation of projects as required; Ability to effectively communicate required information to vendors, customers, and employees, pass validated inspection assessment
Education/Training:
High School diploma or equivalent; ASQ or Quality related education preferred
Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience performing final inspection, preferably in an aerospace business
  • Knowledge of ISO9000
  • Basic blueprint reading
  • Ability to interpret basic Geometric, Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T).
  • Basic computers skills.
