Job Description

Job Description The Quality Control Technician evaluates finished products to ensure they meet established quality and safety standards. This role performs analytical testing according to product specifications, documents all results for compliance, and partners closely with production, shipping, and customer service teams to resolve quality issues. The position requires comfort working across different departments and shifts in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with regular overtime. Responsibilities Evaluate finished products for quality, safety, and acceptability according to established product specifications. Perform all required quality analyses and tests using appropriate quality control analysis equipment. Communicate product quality issues clearly and promptly to production supervisors, production managers, quality control leadership, shipping, and customer service staff. Log all analysis test results and batch information in the I-Series (AS400) system and maintain accurate, complete analysis records for documentation compliance. Monitor production line equipment for proper functionality, safety, and cleanliness, and report or help resolve issues as they arise. Check metal detectors (critical control points), magnets, and scales, and perform critical control point and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) audits. Assist in investigations involving foreign material and product non-conformance, including gathering data and supporting root cause analysis. Perform batch set-up checks, assist in correcting set-ups when necessary, and document any discrepancies. Place product on hold when quality concerns arise and release product when it meets all quality standards and requirements. Reject non-conforming product as necessary and complete rejection forms, including root cause identification and corrective action documentation. Check the effectiveness of allergen clean-outs as needed to ensure compliance with allergen control procedures. Perform pre-operation (Pre-Op) audits when necessary, for example when equipment has been down for maintenance, to confirm readiness and sanitation. Conduct production scale checks and perform laboratory equipment calibration according to the established calibration schedule. Collect microbiological samples as needed and place associated product on micro hold when required. Maintain and organize the retain sample area and control sample files to ensure traceability and compliance. Follow all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and safety procedures at all times while on the production floor and in the laboratory. Work as part of a rotator position, learning and supporting different departments as needed across multiple shifts. Perform special tasks and additional duties as assigned in support of the quality control and production teams. Additional Skills & Qualifications High School Diploma or GED Experience working as a quality control technician or in a quality-focused role in a manufacturing or food production environment. Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and critical control points (CCPs). Experience using metal detectors, magnets, and scales in a production setting. Experience in conducting audits, including GMP and pre-operation audits. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Elmwood Park, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.50 - $22.35/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
