Quality Inspector Job Description The Quality Inspector is responsible for inspecting products, components, and materials for visual defects and dimensional accuracy, ensuring they meet established quality standards and specifications before release or shipment. This role plays a key part in maintaining product consistency, documenting inspection results, and collaborating with production and quality teams to support continuous improvement. Responsibilities Perform detailed visual inspections of products, components, and materials using established criteria and inspection procedures. Identify and document defects such as scratches, dents, discoloration, misalignments, and other non-conformities. Use basic measuring tools, including micrometers, calipers, and gauges, to verify dimensions and tolerances as required. Conduct quality checks throughout the production process to ensure compliance with company and customer specifications. Maintain accurate and organized inspection records, reports, and documentation for traceability and audit purposes. Communicate inspection findings clearly and promptly to production and quality teams to support timely corrective actions. Assist in root cause analysis of quality issues and participate in continuous improvement initiatives to reduce defects and rework. Follow all safety, quality, and operational protocols at all times while working with inspection tools and equipment. Support the consistent application of quality control procedures and contribute to maintaining high quality standards across the facility. Collaborate with team members to ensure products are properly inspected prior to release or shipment. Essential Skills Experience in quality inspection and quality control within a manufacturing or production environment. Proficiency in visual inspection techniques, including the ability to detect scratches, dents, discoloration, misalignments, and other defects. Ability to use basic measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges to perform dimensional checks. Strong attention to detail and accuracy when evaluating products and recording inspection results. Capability to maintain clear, accurate inspection records and reports. Effective communication skills to convey findings to production and quality teams. Commitment to following safety and quality protocols consistently. Ability to support root cause analysis and continuous improvement efforts. Familiarity with coordinate measuring machines (CMM) is beneficial for more advanced inspections. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with CMM (coordinate measuring machine) operations or readings is a plus. Prior exposure to structured quality systems and documented inspection criteria. Comfort working with both visual and measurement-based inspection methods. You will work in a production and quality setting using tools such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, and potentially CMM equipment for inspection tasks. The environment supports focused, detail-oriented work and emphasizes adherence to safety and quality procedures. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Machesney Park, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $15.00 - $22.00/hr.
