CMM Operator Job Description This role focuses on programming and operating ZEISS coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) to inspect complex, high-precision components. You will develop and run inspection routines, analyze measurement data, and ensure that products meet stringent dimensional and quality requirements. The position requires close collaboration with engineering, quality, and production teams to support continuous improvement and maintain world-class metrology standards. Responsibilities + Program and operate ZEISS CMMs using CALYPSO software to inspect high-precision components. + Develop robust inspection routines for complex geometries and tight-tolerance features. + Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and customer specifications to define inspection strategies. + Perform first article inspections ( FAI ), in-process inspections, and final inspections to verify product conformity. + Analyze measurement data, identify deviations, and generate accurate, detailed inspection reports. + Troubleshoot CMM programming and measurement issues to ensure reliable and repeatable results. + Maintain calibration status and proper functioning of CMMs and related inspection equipment. + Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to resolve dimensional and quality issues. + Drive process improvements related to measurement methods, inspection efficiency, and data integrity. + Support internal and external audits by providing measurement data, documentation, and traceability. + Ensure all inspection activities comply with established quality procedures and customer requirements. + Manage multiple inspection tasks and priorities while meeting production and project timelines. Essential Skills + Minimum 3+ years of hands-on experience operating and programming ZEISS CMMs. + Strong proficiency with
CALYPSO CMM
software for programming and analysis. + Solid understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T). + Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and CAD models. + Experience performing tight tolerance, micron-level measurements. + Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in all inspection activities. + Working knowledge of manufacturing processes such as grinding and machining. + Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple priorities. + Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and document results clearly. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience working in precision grinding or tooling environments. + Familiarity with additional metrology equipment such as optical comparators, vision systems, and surface profilometers. + Exposure to ISO 9001 and AS9100 quality management systems. + CAD experience using SolidWorks or similar design tools. + Experience with automation or offline CMM programming. + Experience in lean manufacturing or continuous improvement initiatives. + Technical certification in metrology or quality, such as CQE or CQT , or similar credentials. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Palatine, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00
