Job Description

Quality Control Assistant Crawford Company - Rock Island, IL Crawford Company is seeking a Quality Control Assistant to inspect fabricated metal components and ensure they meet customer specifications and company quality standards. The ideal candidate has experience reading blueprints, performing dimensional inspections, and identifying fabrication or welding defects. Experience with measuring equipment, such as a FARO Arm, is preferred but not required. Training will be provided for the right candidate. Essential Responsibilities Inspect laser-cut, formed, welded, and assembled components throughout the manufacturing process. Verify dimensions, bend angles, hole locations, and overall part conformance using precision measuring equipment and the FARO Arm. Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and work instructions. Inspect welded assemblies for quality issues including porosity (pinholes), incomplete welds, cracks, distortion, and other visual defects. Document inspection results and maintain accurate quality records. Identify nonconforming material and communicate findings to production personnel and the Quality Manager. Assist with root cause investigations and corrective actions to prevent recurring quality issues. Verify first article inspections and perform in-process and final inspections. Ensure inspection equipment is properly maintained and calibrated. Work closely with laser operators, press brake operators, welders, and production staff to resolve quality concerns. Support continuous improvement initiatives that improve product quality and manufacturing efficiency. Assist with incoming material inspections and shipping inspections as needed. Follow all company safety procedures and quality standards. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education High school diploma or GED required. Technical training in manufacturing, welding, machining, fabrication, or quality assurance is preferred. Experience Manufacturing, fabrication, welding, machining, or quality inspection experience preferred. Experience inspecting fabricated metal components is highly desirable. Experience using precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, angle gauges, and tape measures. Experience using portable measuring equipment (FARO Arm or similar) is a plus but not required. Skills & Knowledge Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings. Understanding of dimensional inspection techniques. Familiarity with GD&T is beneficial but not required. Knowledge of fabrication and welding processes. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to identify defects and communicate quality concerns professionally. Basic computer skills for documentation and reporting. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Position Type / Expected Hours This is a full-time position. Training will be completed on first shift before transitioning to second shift. Overtime may be required based on production demands. Physical Requirements Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift. Frequently bend, kneel, stoop, and reach while inspecting parts. Lift and move materials weighing up to 75 pounds with or without assistance. Perform inspections in a manufacturing environment around machinery, welding operations, and fabrication equipment. Ability to distinguish colors, identify weld defects, and perform close visual inspections.
